You are exactly 180 degrees from understanding my intent.

The fact is that someone, like it or not, was criticizing Apex on their forum for selling a product at a markup. Last I checked this forum doesn't run ads, meaning that they pay for us to use this out of pocket. Hosting and maintenance isn't free, in case you weren't aware. I would submit to you that it is value-added features like this forum that makes supporting some manufacturers not just worthwhile but wise indeed.

I would have simply kept my mouth shut if the OP had not insinuated that Apex were somehow taking advantage of the rest of us by marking up the tank grip that they offer for sale. He could have simply stated "hey, I have some of this stuff, does someone want to buy my leftovers?".

Do you think the fellow that built your Ducati would allow a shade tree mechanic space in the front of his store or a place on his website to offer the same services "because so-and-so charges a markup on his services, I'll do the same for $xx"??? Of course not. Yet, wouldn't he be simply "trying to help a fellow member"?

I take your tone as simply being argumentative, you are not making any reasonable attempt to see my point.

At any rate, I'm sure the OP is a good chap, I'm sure you are a good chap, and my ass is no longer chapped now that I've said my piece.

    Good day kind sirs! :grouphug:

i catch your drift .. i should have simply left the apex name out of the equasion but i also meant no harm or foul ... i understand apex is a close affiliate to stt but also i see threads on here of sales where people quote stg on prices yet nobody calls them out ... same principle

if i sell the rest of what i have left then apex may or may not have lost a few customers but either hydroturf makes the product and got paid for their services, i am selling the rest as a fraction of the cost of other sellers to simply get it off my hands and it also helps out those on here who finds my price more attractive and do-able then the other sellers .. either way the manfuacturer of the product got paid the sticker price and im simply passing savings on by cutting out the middle man sellers .. no harm no foul just business and doing what any other rider i believe on here would .. but yes i could have left out specific companies

i guess i could have asked same price as apex and everything would have been peachy but it helps me out by selling it at a lower price so i get it off my hands and make some back and also helps out the buyers who pay less for the same product .. that way both parties are happy .. again im not startin a business just selling leftovers

if apex is displeased about me selling to 4 or 5 they are welcome to contact me personally .. but i meant them no harm and have not seen a rep of theirs chime in to bash me .. they are a business and know how things go

with that said thanks to those who have responded in a positive manor and those that have inquired about the product .. still enough for about 3 tanks

    thanks

I am on the same page with you: we have both expressed our opinions and have made an attempt to see eye-to-eye! :thumb:

In all honesty this entire thing is none of my business - I concede that. But at the same time the forum is here to express opinions and as I've stated I have the perspective of a business owner which sometimes puts me in a defensive posture. I only continue to post because I feel like our other participant in the matter had misrepresented the point I was trying to make.

Thank you for such a thoughtful, well written reply.

However, I maintain that my analogy of the Ducati tech remains valid.

Someone offering up product on a forum is more than likely not prepared to offer the same level of service when delivering said product as an established company. Even if we are talking about a commodity product, there may well be differences in packaging, timeliness of delivery, follow-through after the transaction, and most importantly... what happens if the item delivered is incorrect or damaged? These are the "thoroughness of work and attention to detail" that justify a premium price when a company decides to charge it. Great customer service when making a retail purchase cannot be measured in money, either.

Also, I would certainly never blackball anyone for not promoting/using Triumph or Apex products - I currently own exactly zero from either. Are you saying someone else has done so? I haven't noticed that myself.

We may disagree but I appreciate you giving my opinion your valuable time with a respectful reply. Thanks.
