It's great that there is a mobile dyno for people... but it's not so great that it was right in the middle of the paddock area and also that it was pointed directly into the garages where people had to stop everything and hold their ears throughout the day.

Please, as a courtesy to the riders, the STT workers and all of the spectators, can we have the mobile dyno set up away from the pit area and also pointed so that the noise pollution isn't so disruptive?

    Thanks in advance

This is best directed to the regional director via email. Sometimes common sense isn't common when it comes to noise makers.

Send Dave a note and he'll take care of it.

Thanks Monte - I was thinking that you might be planning to sell all of those cones you have been hoarding over the years as a low-tech hearing aid when we are all deaf....

It was just the cherry on top of a "really interesting" track day.

so, does anyone here think that there's any chance that Thunderbolt Raceway will be too far of a drive for all the really interesting people that made Sunday so special? I hope that it is, but I'm really doubtful...

Actually, I think David does a pretty good job, especially considering the yahoos that show up to Pocono. I'm told the NESBA day on Saturday had more crashes, including two helicopter transports. Compared to the usual mayhem at Pocono, I think the day went pretty well. granted, Intermediate was a red flag fest, but Advanced seemed relatively trouble free. I had fun. I don't really know what to suggest for Pocono, other than turning the coaches into blue vested patrol cops... that track really seems to bring out the idiots and crazies.

    Don't get me started.

Let just say I will NEVER go to another track day with one of those again. Not sure what was worse, the dyno or the a-holes with the open pipes. Oh I know, how about an A-hole with open pipes ON A DYNO!

i like having the dyno there. i've never used it but i plan on it at some point. it's a shame that you were bothered by the noise, and although i understand your complaint, it wasn't really that bad. true it could have been better positioned, but i can guarantee that i was a lot closer than you were, and it didn't bother me as much as some of the others. i just left my earplugs in all day.

i think just a little better positioning of the dyno would solve everyones' problems.

Agreed - and that's precisely what I mentioned in the opening thread...

    +1 to Lance's post!

Dave does indeed run a good event - it's the people who just don't seem to 'get it'...

When there is a mid-day 'come to Jesus' meeting with specific mention of riding slowly in the pit area and people STILL ride around the pits far too fast (do you really need to just about get a knee down going around the garage when you can't actually see what's on the other side of the building???), there is a problem.... Perhaps having someone with a clip-board recording bike numbers of the few offenders is in order?

Dave had some valid points at the mid-day meeting. Since there are more and more 'visitors' showing up at track events - it is up to the rider's who invite them to go over some basic protocols so that everyone is safe and has a good time.

And does Dave really need to tell people to not walk or stand right at the entrance of where the pit-in area meets the paddock area? And WTF - people stopping their bikes right there to talk as well? And that was in the A-group...

Forgive my rant - work sucks today...

This is kinda why I haven't been to a FUSA day @ Pocono in a few years. I don't envy the staff on those days. Although I can't talk too much cause I was the IDIOT that promply crashed the 2nd sesion out last week @ Beaver. But at least I contributed to a club who already has a reputation for lots of crashes instead of at an STT day  You can thank me latter Monte

If Dave is in charge...yea he really does have to take charge of whatever needs to be done to keep things safe. They were not. If he needs more help, get some. If he has to ask guests to leave because they are causing problems, esp safety problems, then so be it.

can you be more specific as to what you felt was "unsafe" about the event?

i just wanted to say, i had a great time on sunday.

nothing bothered me or kept me from running my program.

    not the dyno,
    loud pipes,
special or interesting people (what ever that means),
people and riders standing near pit lane,
25 hyabusas or the guys wearing gang colors,
the nyc block party style lunch in the nascar tech garage,
    the red flags,
keith (speed) rant on pit out,

all in all, i had a great time and enjoyed every ones company.
i just put my ear plugs in and my race face on.
i think more people should do the same.

i take it that upon further thought, people just wanted to complain for the sake of complaining rather than actually having any real complaints?

granted, the issue concerning the dyno noise is a legitimate issue, and could be handled in a better manner (i know that david is fully aware of this), but as far as safety goes, i ask again what exactly happened on sunday that david could look into that people thought was unsafe?

personally, aside from some dubious riding from some of the lesser experienced riders (and this happens at all trackday events, not just STT) i didn't think there were any safety problems at all.

    anyone care to chime in?

Your question might need to be restated in terms of the context of what was previously posted by several people.... Dave doesn't need to 'look into' anything - he already did and addressed it directly on Sunday during the mid-day meeting.

Dave is a sharp guy and runs a good event. If you were in attendance, did you listen to his mid-day speech? If you weren't there, it doesn't really matter much to you anyway, if you were there and weren't listening (or didn't understand what he was saying), well, you might have been one of the people Dave was referring to    since Dave was quite specific about his concerns.

Anyway, it appears that this hijacked horse is just about beaten to death... My original intent was to mention the dyno placement and virtually everyone agreed that it could have been better and now some thought will be given to its placement for future events.

Any other sub-topics were extraneous bits that for whatever reason, people felt needed to be said - positive, negative, neutral - whatever.... :?

i was there, remember this post?

well, the problem is that there is suggestion in this thread that things were unsafe at the event. for example:

i'm just asking for clarification on what exactly was it that people felt was unsafe about the event so we can improve this in the future.

btw, for the last 2 years, when i am at a STT event, i wear a yellow jersey with a number on it, and when i don't have a yellow one on, i wear a blue one. dave, link, and i go back over 12 years when we raced CCS East together.

i hope i'm not one of those riders- but i might be...
