Here's the update I got from the organization that ran it last weekend: "There are two corners where they made big changes. Instead of moving the ARMCO back, they just removed it all together. I wish they had removed more in one of those corners though. I still put up two sections of air fence there. In turn 12 they moved the ARMCO back. I still put Air Fence there too. We had one bike make it all the way. The rider stopped short. I put air fence in three corners and plan to put it in 4 corners next time. It's definitely better than it was. But, they always need air fence. " I'm certain someone actually there could be more specific...
Great to hear they are starting improvements as they said. Another reason to think it is going to be an awesome track. Can't wait to get there. Anyone have insight into RV parking, fees, etc?
They have plenty of room for RV parking however I would show up early as space will disappear. As of last weekend they had no electrical hookups.
We will have Yamaha generator rentals there as well!!!! Also - the moving / elimination of armco and barriers is an ongoing process - they are not complete with that yet. t
Any idea how many pieces they brought total? That stuff ain't cheap. Can other orgs rent it from them, I wonder ..
Something probably worth mentioning, though not actually "on the track related", there will be a Corvette club at the track the same weekend as we are there and will be using some of the facilities.... Skidpad????? area. I'm not sure if it will affect our paddock parking area or not, but just wanted to mention it.
Good thought. I will point out that I arrived at the track to spectate Sunday morning at 9:25a and their rent-a-cop wanna security guard wouldn't even let me and my friend in the paddock because "there was no parking" (we were on sportbikes, btw). We had to insist our friends had space in their pits for us.. and he finally let us in. Folks, there was PLENTY of parking space inside, even with the other event going on... not only for lots of bikes, but plenty of cars as well. He was just being all high up on his control with an attitude I disliked. On a side note, that org allowed 8 full track sessions. How COOL IS THAT? They said NCM allows a hot track between 8:30a to 5:30p. Any idea as to if STT will also apply this to their events?
STT's normal schedule will be: Registration and Tech opens at 7:00AM and continues until approx. 8:20AM when the rider's meeting starts. 8:20...Rider's meeting.....until it over with. 9:00 - 9:20....Intermediate session 9:20 - 9:40 Advanced session 9:40 - 10:00 Novice session. This ^^^^^ repeats every hour until the last session of the day which ends at 5:00PM with the Novice group. Lunch break is normally from Noon till 1:00PM....so that equates to seven 20 minute sessions for each group. Adjustments are sometimes necessary for track incidents and crash truck pickups.
Yes, I realize that Vern. What I mean is that NCM runs a hot track longer than perhaps others which in turn allows a track org to complete 8 full sessions if they extend that courtesy to their customers. I want all the track time I can get so that’s why I am bringing this to light. They ran in this order: 8:30a Advanced 8:50a Intermediate 9:10a Novice 9:30a repeat 1030a repeat 11:30a repeat 12:30 lunch hour 1:30p repeat 2:30p repeat 3:30p repeat 4:30p repeat
Sherry its not just about the track's hours.... Keep in mind you need to pay the Corner workers more as well as the Flashy Box for the extra time too....
Thanks awaiting the FAQ (those are great) but anticipation :sorry: On the generator front I have my Honda and a Onan 5.5K so as nice as the Yamaha's are I am generator rich now. Hope to install some more sound damper and test the Genturi before then so things are even nicer. It will be interesting and unlike some that are worriers I am hyped on this track. Seems like a awesome facility with great people. Easy to whine about growing pains and imperfections but that ignores that every other track in the south has their own set. Instead I focus on that this is not AMP and will get better and better. In the meantime while not perfect it sounds pretty sweet.
I think everyone will love NCM. I was there this last weekend. Very tricky layout. Look out for the turn named "deception". I think 6-7 bikes took the asphalt run-off in the first session of advanced on Saturday (me included). Also the tire wear is amazing. I could probably do 4-5 days on a rear there.
Since ACC sold out much faster than I anticipated, I was considering a trip to NCM. My question here now is...if an air fence was deemed necessary by *the other org*, will STT have any air fence and, if not, should this be a concern to me at an intermediate pace? I don't know the track so I have no way to judge for myself.
I don't think it is one. I rode there last fall, and while there, it wasn't that big an issue. And previous poster is correct, it's GREAT on tires..baby smooth they used lasers to help lay the track surface...
As soon as I hit submit on that comment I immediately thought of last summer and the run down to Canada corner at Road America...I suppose I've already taken a risk or two at a track day.
