Can I get a woohoo??!!! Shout out if you're coming. And pimp it to all your friends. It's gonna be a grand ol' time! ... or a FUSA time, as the case may be.
I'll be on my small bike - first time on the FUSA track and I'll be focusing on getting a feel for it... I saw the track map, but I really want to find a track outline that I can use to draw out some lines... Looks like a good track but being Pocono, learning the locations of the bumps & pot-holes is the key...
Hmmm, where do I begin to explain the FUSA course. Turn one I guess. You'll learn throughout the day that you go faster and faster through turn 1 than you ever thought possible. Just don't go off track wide, there is a drainage ditch that has nearly crippled at least one rider. Turn 1 also has different line choices. Turns 2 is not all that important, turn 3 is a right hander that I seem to run out of exit room on many times. The short straight to turn 4 is a good passing opportunity, out brake some people going into 5!! Turn 5 is one of my favorites as its fast and like turn 1, you'll go through there faster than you thought you could in the morning. NOW PAY ATTENTION!!!! The back straight including the tunnel turn is wild!!! The bumps have made it necessary to stay lower at the apex of the tunnel turn than a few years ago. You'll go through 3 gears down the straight and before hard braking into the second infield section. There is a slow bus stop that is similar to the bus stop on the east course, then a left kink before another one of my favorites. The last left on the second infield section is another passing opportunity if the rider in front of you is unfamiliar with the track. Then comes the right hander leading you onto the front straight. The transition from this infield section to the front straight will test your suspension, your nerve and your wallet if you get too aggressive so be careful here. From my experince the FUSA events seem to bring out the over aggressive riding characteristics in some riders. Everybody seems a little more amped up, but not in a good way -FIND THESE PEOPLE AND STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!! I wish I could be there this year but the family vacation schedule won't allow it this year. HAVE FUN AND RIDE SAFE!!!
I would have liked to have gone but I committed to Beaverun the same day since a bunch of my friends were all making that trip. Have fun, guys.
Thanks - that was all good info to know! I also have heard that FUSA brings out the worst in people...
Hey Judy--you'll be there? Cool--looking forward to catching up with you and Tam My advice for FUSA is to bring a fire extinguisher. Or marshmallows. 8)
Hey, Doug! Cool, it'll be great to see you. You can come share our garage if you'd like Assuming I get there early enough to grab one! Yeah, FUSA, don't run off because the drainage ditches or fences will get you. Marshmallows, mmmmm. Be careful of the right turn onto the back straight. Run wide and you're into a concrete wall. It's just not a fast turn, at least IMHO.
FUSA is neither as good or as bad as people say IMO. I've heard the stories, but every track has its moments. What is nice about FUSA is the garages, the variety of turns, and of course doing 160 around the tunnel turn. Yeah, right. The wart/bump in the middle of the turn after the back straight that was there last year was gone this June, and the tunnel turn has been repaved. It's no VIR, but its also 6 hours closer to home. The weather this weekend is supposed to be fantastic. What's surprising about it, is how fun it is on a small bike. Finishman-look out--I got a bigger piston and am pushing over 50 HP now! C
Smooth throttle control entering front and back straights...follow Judy, she's fast there. Tunnel turn never bothered me...advantage of a slow bike. Brake markers are your friend at the end of the straight. Forget about carrying corner speed through the bus stop; worry about the drive onto the section after. Fast rhythm section there...its fun, dig it. Just don't look at the gnarly 12 inch drop offs at the edges of the pavement. T1 is fun, many lines avail. Find one that's not bumpy! Cheers, D
Hey Chris, good to hear from ya! I haven't been on a motorcycle in 11 months ( 0 street miles as well) so I'll be there just haveing some fun. My girl is back from Iraq so my head will be a little clearer than last year and will be more fun for me. Still pushing that one lung as hard as you can huh? Can u bring me a couple pounds of that coffee of yours? I'll bring some cash. Thanks
Cas, I have trouble remembering to bring a motorcycle to a track day, much less coffee. You'll have more success and coffee in your home tomorrow by visiting www.oldcitycoffee.com Sorry for the plug everybody! CU at the track! I think Cathy will be there too. Chris
HELP Hi all! I am new here, and I was supposed to go to the august 10th(tomorrow) FUSA day with NYSBC... ...anyway, my bosses are pressuring me to jump on a new project that has to get done, etcetc.... I am sooo bummed, I called the office of sportbiketracktime, and maybe there will be an opening for sunday.... but it looks booked Does anyone know how I might get to come along on sunday? Is there a waiting list? I know, I will probably get this info tomorrow, but if anyone knows any way to reg for sunday, please help me out! Thanks Barrett
The Tunnel section changes every year and it was repaved again before the Nextel races and I'm certain the cars effected it some too. You need to figure out where to be in the morning. A point of interest on the track is also the left after the 'bus stop'. It seems to me that most of the incidents are on this section of track. There's a narrow patch or seam that runs across the track just before where most bikes will turn in which unsettles most bikes. I also wonder if that section isn't a little bit slippery because of the people I know that have crashed there its always been described as loosing the front, turned in and the front washed out. Being that this is mildly down hill its possible its just the track falling away from the tire. The transitions on to the straights are a bit rough, like on the East Course. Take them as much on an angle as possible and it gets better. Also, try to stay off the giant white arrows at each end of the pit lane. It took me 3 visits to this course before I began having real fun on it. If you're going fast enough it begins to flow and you can get a good rhythm going. Too slow and it feels like a bunch of corners connected by short straights. To me the concrete patches didn't matter. I could run up the inside of them, around the outside, go from the outside in or the inside out. Some others have complained the asphalt/concrete transitions upset their bikes. Again, try different things and figure out what works for you because these can change year to year. And lastly (as always at Pocono) click you boot heels together three times and repeat, "No good can come from going to the grass. No good can come from going to the grass. No good can come from going to the grass."  Enjoy!
First of all, why weren't you there? It was a great day, IMO. Perfect conditions, lots of REDUC people, which was the best part. Cathy and I really enjoyed seeing all the regulars as well as meeting some new people. The couple from "Wilmington" who I met as they were getting ready to clubman back home, for example. I forgot your names and I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier.) The worst part was that a lot of REDUC veterans seemed to have trouble keeping their bikes in the vertical position, both on and off the track. I'm not naming names, but I hope everyone's OK! Fun times! See you on the 10th! Chris http://www.philadelphiariders.com/gallery/album73
"First of all, why weren't you there?" Wife's birthday fell on the same day. After taken off for Laguna Seca a few weeks ago, it would be hard to justify ditching her birthday for a track day. Will be there on the 10th! Supermotard needs a place to play
