Anybody hear how Bobby made out? I was pitting in right behind him when he did a stoppie about a foot from that fence.

    Stainless Steel Hardware

Doug and Jeff--we were pitted in garage 12 together on Sunday. I checked out your Spruce and Specialty Aircraft site, but I'm not seeing any metric hardware.

Anyone have a good source for fasteners where you don't have to buy a gross?

I hope Bobby is ok. Must have been posting this at the same time as you, Rich. Can anyone reveal anything about his injuries?

    Sorry Chris,

As you found out all aircraft AN hardware is not metric.

    Here are some other sources,

    Metric and Multistandard Components Corp.

120 Old Saw Mill River Rd.

    Hawthorne, NY

    Global Metrics Inc.

    519-j Marine View Ave.

    Belmont, CA 94002

    Metric Specialties inc.

    410 S. Varney St.,

    Burbank, Ca. 90502

Haven't used these myself, but got them from a friend that has a Racecar prepshop. He says that they have every oddball fastner know to the metric world

    Good hunting!

Like like my post says...he did a stoppie about 1 foot from the fence by the new fuel pumps. He musta been day dreaming or looking sideways at something. Bike went straight up then just fell sideways on the right. It looked like he came down hard, trying to save it on his right leg.

Hey Rich...besides bobby, Pete and I didn't have such a great day either...I went out with a vest on in the first intermediate session of the day only to start finding false neutrals on the 999 going into T6 (onto the back straight) and T8 (lefthander before the busstop). Then the bike just stuck in one gear, the shifter shaft completely frozen. In our pits we managed to get it unstuck and I went out for one more intermediate, then advanced session, where it started finding false neutrals everywhere, then finally stuck again in one gear. Decided it was best to just park it for the day. Sent the bike to Rockwell's with one of the mech's who was also riding that day. Hope there's not too much wrong...bummer!, but my day was done by 10:30 am

Pete, otoh, fared worse. About 5 or 6 laps into the first Advanced session of the day, he tipped the 250 into the 2nd apex of T1 and by a following rider's account the back end of the bike just snapped around. He tried to save it but ran wide across the track, moto'ed, then instant Pocono ditch mayhem ensued. Got his bell rung and couldn't remember riding his bike back to the pits (yipes!). He also couldn't remember for the entire day what caused him to lose control of the bike. We didn't find out what really happened until the very end of the day when the corner workers all came in; one of them told us that someone just ahead of him had knocked a cone into the track and that's what he hit at nearly full lean. Hearing that snapped his memory back...the last thing he remembered was trying to pick the bike up to avoid the cone, but coming on too fast and hitting it anyway. After that, one witness described the bike flipping to it's side and him tumbling for quite a while after reaching the grass. He felt pretty beat up for a few days, but is feeling better now. Glad it was a good day for some, but not for us!

Sent an email to bobby, hopefully he's okay...his injuries were probably worse...

still, bike parts willing, we'll see you on the 10th!

Damn Kath, that sucks about the ducati. 10:30 am? Well, you still didn't beat my record of a 10:15am DOA. Although mine was gernaded piston with colaterial damage! Transmission woudl have been much cheaper.

Did Pete hit the wall, or was it just the ground that rung his bell? How did the Aprilia hold up?

someone here mentioned that the NASCAR course was re-paved. Did they do anything to ease the transition onto the back straight? I feared that the bump woudl just he higher with the new pavement.

Well........I did indeed "save " it with my right leg, as my bike never really touched the ground; unfortunately my right leg was sacrificed, as I crushed my tibial plateau, and split the tibia from top to bottom.

As to "what happened", I was preparing to enter my pit from the opposite side of the garages from where I was pitted and was counting garages to see which one was opposite of mine when I moved right to avoid a couple of pedestrians and (still looking "up" at the garages) didn't realize until the last moment that there was a fence directly in front of me. Managed the get the bike stopped, but lofted the rear wheel with the bike at at an ankle and when it came down, it came down on my knee. After riding extremely well for 4 or 5 sessions (seeing 176 on my speedo on the back straight each and every lap) a total brain fart at 15 mph will have me not walking for several months.

    God Loves Me (lol)

That story almost hurts to read. Hope for a speedy recovery for you, Bob.

Did you ever get the headshake to subside? I ran into a good dose of it myself at Beaverun that Sunday.

After the Ohlins Tech guy @ Mid Ohio suggested a small (two turns on the adjuster) increase of ride height in the rear, at my level it was perfect @ MId Ohio, and perfect at Pocono; unfortunately my injury has insured that I won't have the opportunity this season to see if the change works for Summit or Beaver....

Bobby B. I'm really sorry to hear about your injury. It was nice talking to you up at the shop as it seemed you had gotten that "old fire" back. I hope you heal fast and don't lose the enthusiasm for riding as it was that enthusiasm that got me on the track to begin with. Get better my friend.

Kath and Pete, sorry you both had such a bad day. I'm glad to hear that Pete was alright after the fall. If I can help with RS parts let me know. Erik and I have a decent stash now.
