yeah i was just checking those out.. open trailer with ramp for around $25... not bad! So this will be my 2nd TD total, but first with STT. What's the schedule like? (i.e. time gates open, registration, tech, etc...) And is there any instruction given? Reason i ask - the first track day that i did was kind of a nightmare.. after i finally figured out where to register and had the bike tech'd we had the riders meeting where they discussed the flags and then it was pretty much, "GO HAVE FUN!" and it was mildly nerve-wracking for the rest of the day. Is that just the way it is for every org?
I'm not completely sure, but usually the schedule is something like gates open around 6-6:30, tech opens around 7:30 and the rider's meeting is at 8. The novice group has mandatory classes until the 5th session, I think, and the intermediate group has voluntary classes you can go to.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the amount of instruction and attention provided for novices (and all classes) at an STT track day. The entire novice staff appears determined to ensure everyone is safe, comfortable, improving their skills, and having fun.
Ready to be back! I'll be there Sunday in the Novice group. First time back on track since wadding my FZR400 in 08'. Ready to get back to some sort of racing form (and prolly find out how out of shape I'm in...)! Glad to see some others from Lafayette going, who are you?!?!:thumb:
Gate opens promptly at 7am est. stay all the way to the right so the Putnam folks can get through. STT has a good novice program, but some are the go out and ride an we will tell you whats wrong type, not a wrong way but just different from the structured program that STT employs, both work and overall you'll have fun in either setting. I'm not staff but I know my way around Putnam pretty well and I'd be more than willing to help ya out. I have a green/black cow spotted zx6r and I'll be in a garage somewhere.
I've been doing STT days since last October. I used to do SCCA car stuff from '00-'05. I own ISPhotographic on Main Street in Lafayette. I'm a professional wedding and portrait photographer. Stop in and say hi sometime, my name is Dave Mason. I ride a Kawasaki Versys on the street, my wife rides a Ninja 250 and we do some touring together, southern Indiana and Kentucky, that kind of stuff.
I'll be there saturday on fat Sally, my CBR929RR. Got my garage lined up and that's the way to go for sure. If you watch video while on the track you'll notice cracks around the whole circuit. I was shocked watching my gopro. At least Putnam wants to maintain a good surface which will come sooner or later.
Running N. The only track I feel familiar enough with to consider I at this point is Barber. My last day at Putnam was in April and I crashed. Makes me that much more determined to ride Putnam well. I have a garage lined up as well. See you there!
I work for Keller Williams Realty...cell phone will be ignored that weekend I feel like I'm always working LOL. I don't ride too much in town just not fun with the traffic. Can't miss me though Xerox Rep 848 always wearing my gear. Come find me at the track if you have time.
BTW I think now is a good time to start crossing our fingers for dry weather. Not that I hate the rain but I REALLY want it to be dry for this one.
Do you know Grant Howard by chance? He's Keller Williams and I photographed his sister's wedding last year.
My plan is to go downtown sat night with my street bike. We should get a group together to ride or meet up downtown.
