it wasn't damaged in the crashe(s); the bike is running too hot for me and the current radiator is trashed, thus the ebay one, which should be here within the hour. IN FACT IT JUST ARRIVED! I flagged for CSS and didn't crash this weekend!
So john, how did that stuff work out for you? And did you use anything to make a gap between the guard and radiator or is it flush against?
jay, I'm going to do it later today. I'll post a pic. I imagine flush to the radiator is how I'll mount it. I don't know how much room there is behind the tire.
Ok just wondering.... The Cox guards come with foam inserts that create about 1/4 inch gap that is what helps with absorption.. I have read in some instances that flush againt the radiator doesnt do anything for absorption... Just curious how it comes out as i bought some of that diamond mesh to make a guard. Also bought some auto weatherstripping for the foam pads if i choose to use them... I will probably be doing mine on Thursday so anxious to see how yours turn out..
I had to use snips to remove the lower corners; it wouldn't have fit w/bodywork. then, natch, duct tape to cover over the sharpies. the makeup and thickness of the screen itself should provide plenty of absorption. I feel like it'll allow plenty of air flow as well.
rob, I will def watch the temp. I think the "filter" will allow plenty of air to pass through. when I held it up to a light, I was amazed at how sheer it is.
Looks good, John.... definitely watch that temp guage tho Got mine done last night too... Went the a sheet of diamond mesh from Lowe's and cut to size... Some weatherstripping foam on the corners for a little space between and absorption...
Wanted to ask, how was CSS? Did you learn anything (from watching or riding?) I'll be interested in your experience we can talk about it this weekend.
I just tested the "new" radiator in the garage (no air movement). it went up to 201º, then the fan kicked on and it dropped to 185º almost instantly. certainly, the track will be more of a challenge, but so far, things look good. Jay, your setup looks more pro than mine. Keith, CSS was really cool. in exchange for flagging, I and 6 others got to ride off and on all day. emily did a day too. it's neat to be in the corners and see that perspective. I even had to wave red/yellow together for a lowside in C's web. I had stations 2,3,6 (T5), 7, 10, 17. it's a good group of guys. we weren't STRICTLY held to the exercises, but we had to be really good about passing and not splitting up a student/instructor pair. basically, we were going much faster than most students. Be nice to your corner workers; it's a joyless job. hot, buggy (ants, wasps, bees, etc.) and fairly boring. and watching the Dunlop tester on Q2's was very humbling.
after running at Barber in >90˚ with the filter on, I was still seeing 220˚ coming back into the pits. that's a bit lower than what I was seeing w/the old radiator and w/o the filter. maybe this bike simply runs a bit hot compared to what I would like.... in any case, the radiator is protected now.
