To close up this thread, let me say to anyone who is asking the same question, rent the leathers. Unless you have an Aerostich, Klim, or some other suitable high end suit, leather should be the preferred way. Not only for the abrasive resistance, but the padding and safety in the leather suit might be better. Yes you can replace the pads in a textile, but on an inexpensive textile suit, where they have stitched the pockets for the elbow, shoulder or knee protection might not be the right place, also leather is more tight fitting, and this fit is important. Just some things I picked up over two days of TD.

Concerning the modular helmet such as a Neotec 2, a helmet with very good safety ratings, again I'm glad I decided to go with a full face helmet. The weight saving, reduced noise, where two of the main things I realized. If you go around the track at a medium pace, and are not moving your body position, maybe the modular would work out, but if you up your level or riding by moving you body, head position, and increase speed, I think you will have preferred a full face. It is surprising how much work you do riding around the track at a higher level.

Hope this helps someone. From above you can see the suggestions from more experienced riders, and they hold up as expected to my experience. So go and do a TD, it can become addictive, you will experience a lot, and take away even more.
