You're welcome to all the intermediate riders who got to practice their passing skills on me all weekend. I promise to make it more challenging next time... http://contour.com/stories/brooks-the-moving-chicane--2
I want to thank everyone i met at gingerman over the weekend for a very enjoyable experience. Everyone was super friendly and i felt welcome as a newbie. My instructors (Jonathan, Rob, Dan, Stewart) were extremely helpful and i made huge improvements with your expert guidance. I learned more about riding last weekend than any other weekend of my life and had a blast doing it. My pit neighbors, Jim, Dave, K3, had a lot of good insight to share and it was fun to hang out with you guys while off the track. Here's a video shot from Jonathan's bike on saturday during a typical evening novice session: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENmF1gTDiDY&feature=youtu.be Can't wait till next time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumb: rob
Rob, You did really well, and continued to improve all weekend. We should have recorded some of sundays sessions so you could see the difference. I was happy to help!
Your really moving for the novice group! What's going on at 5:37 and 9:21? Two pretty big mid corner corrections. Same corner both times. Other than that you looked really smooth:thumb:. Also I see your riding a 2004 gsxr 600. I've got a buddy that has a ton of race parts for that bike. It was his old track bike and he bought a new one so he doesn't need them. If your interested let me know and I can get details. Here's a quick list of the top off my head -ohlins front and rear suspension -aftermarket slipper clutch -pipe (hindle) -powercommander -brembo master -aftermarket front brake dics -clip-ons -vortex foot pegs -might have some decent race bodywork but I'm not sure. Later Steve
At 5:37 my boot touched the ground and it startled me, i'm not used to rubbing body parts on the ground. I was surprised it touched, since i had the ball of my foot on the tip of the peg. I forget what happened at 9:21, i probably just got spooked and straightened the bike up. I'd frequently get spooked mid corner when i started but i'm getting more comfortable. I'm trying to resist the urge to put racy parts on the zuki. With that said, how much for the brembo master and the slipper clutch? What are the benefits of aftermarket foot pegs? Speaking of brakes, occasionally after i let my bike sit a while (sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes days) when i grab the front brake lever it will go all the way to the grip and i have to pump it up to get the brakes to work. Once it is pumped up it is firm (i don't think air is entering the system). I suspect that the front caliper piston(s) might be retracting? I need to investigate. Anyone else run into this? thanks! rob
Hi all! The Gingerman weekend was my first STT event; I drove in from Pittsburgh to meet a buddy who drove in from Des Moines. Anyway, we had a super time. Just thought I'd drop in and share my onboard video. My battery ran out after the first few sessions, so I only have video from the 2nd thru 4th "I" group sessions from Saturday. Bike is a TZ125. This weekend is only my second track day ever, so I'm still coming up to speed, but I figure folks might want to catch a glimpse of themselves in my video as they go past me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyRkLZI0egs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIj1LTGEnZI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbN_bLokx6s Russ
I ran into this on my TZ (I bought it used, and it had sat for 10 years). Replacing the caliper seals fixed it. The rubber gets hard and retracts the pistons, as you suspect. It's not a difficult job, I can talk you thru it if you need it. Russ
dude, you were MOVING in the last session on sunday. jon and i watched you for a bit and you didn't look like a newbie to me. great work! s3aturnr
You happen to hit one of the smaller seems in the new section leaned over with both tires, it spooked you and caused you to check up. Replacing the rearsets will give you additional clearance for your toes that keep rubbing. It usually raises the height of the foot pegs and moves them back slightly. They are very nice for track riding. Suzuki is known for horrible brakes. The faster you get, the worse they get. Replacing the master cyliner usually solves the issue, but you still need to bleed your brakes every weekend. Also, Steve is a good guy and if he can get you some good parts for cheap, I would take him up on it. :thumb:
I guess that's the key. You need to decide if your going to keep that bike or ungrade to something newer before putting a whole lot of money into it. If you decide to keep the 2004 he has everything you could want for that bike. At the pace your going/learning I'd lean towards buying suspension before the slipper. You can learn to blip the throttle but riding a poorly handling bike sucks. Also the faster you get the more important the suspension becomes. Later Steve
I would be very interested in some of these parts for my coaching bike Steve. Any idea on how much he wants for things?
Yeah, Matt is back home resting now with his arm and leg in a cast. He will be out of commission for the next 10 - 12 weeks. He broke his Tib and Fib and had some new hardware put in his leg. His left wrist/arm was in a cast or wrapped up too.
as a rider who was totally against upgrading a stock super sport bike i have to admit i REALLY like the woodcraft rearsets we installed. even tho the location looks only slightly different than stock, it felt WORLDS better than the stockers and i loved them immediately. great "upgrade" if you ask me... s3aturnr
You were against it because you are stubborn and dont know any better. You really need to start listening to me more... :thumb: :wheel:
Got my videos uploaded I had a big wobble in both videos. If you go to my YouTube channel all of the sessions I ran are posted there. I was in Advanced both days 08/11-12/12 if anyone's looking for video of themselves they might be in one of them. Trying to follow Jason DiSalvo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MYjvG-SaI8 Riding with David Grey and Richard Harris as they almost hit each other in T7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udv-8szr18g
Thanks it means a lot! I know I have so much to improve on though. I don't think I'm doing too bad for being on track a little over a year. I started 7/30/11, did some track days, moved to A. Then this year I blew my engine and started racing w a new bike. Won 4 and 8 podiums so far. Hopefully move up to expert next year and go from there.
