I did a quick search and couldn't find any info on the subject. I recently bought a used lap timer just to monitor my progress this season. I know I will need to be able to be mount it both directions, but with my setup I would prefer to have it mounted before I get to the track. I just wondered where the standard beacon locations are for the tracks?

And we are still a month away from Barber and I am running out of things to tinker with in the garage. If it doesn't get here soon I may start safety wiring the lawn mower!

Use Velcro to you can switch it around. Barber's beacon is normally on the right side.

usually the beacon is placed at the pit out flag station.

I used velcro and a ziptie over it just for that cheap added protection. You can see the blue box on my bike (white/black GSXR) in this picture. It worked well.

I would love that location but my track fairings don't have that top ledge. I either have to fabricate some type of "L" bracket and mount to fairing or find different solution. Curious what other 675 riders do other than the tail mount?

if you get a xt timer the have a mounting bracket you can buy its like $35. you can mount the display on that then run the box to wherever has direct line of sight to the beacon as you pass (left or right) that helps with space management as putting both on at the same can be a pain

That's your best bet. If memory serves me (I've used a GPS lap timer for quite awhile so digging deep), the beacon is normally on riders right at Barber and Road Atlanta but on riders left at Tally GP for example.

That will help for barber trip. I am in the process of making a bracket between windshield fairing stays. Trouble getting angle correct but should be able to mount beacon with Velcro once complete.

I have not gotten to the point of using one yet, but have looked at them, why would I not put it on the tail section? Seems the best location, never need to move it. What am I missing?

Yes IMO that is the best place.... That is where I have mine.... 6 Ft cord... Velcro and a Zip tie around loose enough to rip up and change sides... Worked well over the years...

remember I do not have one, what is the 6' cord for. I thought it was just a "box" that recorded information? Stick the box on the tail and take it off at the end of the day. Then the few I looked at, you would connect it to a computer and you could gather your information. is the cord to connect it to the computer "fixed" on the unit and therefore on the bike when you are riding?

There are 2 models, the basic one that is the stick on box and has limited features and the older model that could store more lap info and different tracks, etc. The more full featured model had the infrared receiver separate and you could get 2 different length cables to support your mounting choice.
