After my little run in with the deer this year I have a different understanding of medical bills and insurance. I'm just now almost back to normal. I'm currenly insured through State farm/w additional medical and I have blue cross and blue shield for medical.

I know that any damage to my bike is not covered at a trackday. I also know that the additional medical coverage through my insurance company won't cover me at the track but does anyone know if BCBS does? If I get physically hurt am I screwed ...other than paying for a big chunk of the ambulance ride and some copays of course.

    Thanks

  2. I have HAP and I was covered for my day in the hospital after a crash last year.

Why isn't your bike covered at a trackday ? Mine is and I have State Farm .

This is what I've found about Statefarm. Unless you heard different please let me know where you found your info.

"State Farms policy clearly states that riding on a track designed for racing or high speed riding is NOT covered in any way, shape or form."

Me too... I called my agent to clarify. She stated that as long as it is not an official race, I was covered. :?

I'll have to contact my State farm to be sure. Thanks for the info. I still have to contact Blue cross blue shield to check too.

BC&BS Should cover you as well - this is what I have through work and I have called them to confirm. Unless there is written stipulation, insurance should follow you the whole way through. Track days are not in violation of the terms of riding ones motorcycle in an otherwise unnatural environment - unlike... a scheduled, sanctioned race.

Time for the Monday morning phone calls.

  8. +1 Most street insurance policies will cover you as long as it is not competition, check your fine print to make sure.

Actually BCBS rules vary depending on your employer. You need to ask if there are any activities that are not covered. I have BCBS and had no problem when I broke my ankle in a CCS race. Just don't wait until you have a problem to ASK. You should know what the deal is upfront.

    INS

I had a mishap this year at road america and totaled my 05 Gixxer 1000 and State Farm paid it off for me because STT is considered a riding school. As far as medical goes I fortunatly can't contribute to that part of the question.

Check this with your employer, guys. I had to have riders on my health and life insurance at my last employer to make sure I was covered. Life insurance tends to be worse - they didn't want to cover me even for street riding.

My life insurance wouldn't cover me for any type of racing for the first 2 years. After that I think by law they have to cover you for anything.

Ummm... I am my employer. I think I am covered on the track? I have BCBS and it just covered almost $200,K in med bills including ambulance and helicopter for a street crash. Life ins. was a little harder but my partner is a smoker & I ride bikes so it evens out :D

With the number of days that I've spent on track over the last several years, I've had more than my fair share of high speed parking maneuvers. My medical bills, albeit fairly minor (knock on wood), have all been covered by my insurance through work, no questions asked. (formerly Great West & now BCBS by the way.) I've never persued claiming bike damage, since I'm usually riding "junk" as Brian Van likes to call it. Not junk really, but dedicated track bikes rather than street bikes. My Mille doesn't have race bodywork on it, but I bought it wrecked cheap, & so far I've been pretty lucky riding it. I've tossed my little Firebolt street bike down the track a couple of times, but they crash well & replacement parts are cheap. One of my favorite quotes on the subject is "Don't bring anything to the track that you're not willing to throw in the dumpster at the end of the day."

I know its late to jump on this train lol... 5 years late but i came across this thread while searching how to figure out my insurance problem... i got a concussion at the track and BCBS wont cover it because they said its a automotive accident and i need to go through my motorcycle insurance... any idea what to tell them so that they cover it?? PRogressive doesnt cover track days so i doubt theyll cover it either.... any clues??

yes! file an appeal! i did and bcbs paid

also everyone with bcbs that reads this please be aware! your best bet is to go to the ER! i went to urgent care clinic and had to fight fight fight! bcbs said if i went to ER it would have been paid no questions asked * except * will your auto ins pay medical ? my state farm does not pay medical on motorcycle so bcbs had to pay.

if you have medical thru your motorcycle ins. it must pay first to it's limit, then bcbs kicks in

varies state to state of course

also, get the care giver / facility on your side to fight ins. with you they helped me !

They are just being Aholes. They have to pay if you have no auto insurance. That would be like falling down outside your house and them wanting you to claim it on your homeowners

And next time to be sure just tell them you fell down playing some kind of sport. It is the truth. You just dont tell them the sport involved a motorcycle :D

just have the wife drive me to the ER

that way there wont be a legal record of how it happened
