That's how my parents were regarding street bikes. We could ride dirt (various dirtbikes since about 4 years old) all we wanted, but not street. After graduating college and moving out I bought an '00 Ninja 250. Had a great time with that thing. A year later I sold it and bought the '01 SV. (Dad was peeved that I bought the Ninja but actually liked the SV.)
Hello everybody, First bike was a tomos moped. sweet ride. Learned to ride on a 1983 Kawasaki KZ305. I thought that would keep me satisified for atleast the summer but I was already beating the piss out of it in less than 3 weeks. Then we bought a very very rough 1989 Hurricane 600 that was painted with flat latex house paint. We completely overhauled it and it was a really great first sportbike. Particularly for somebody as vertically challenged as I. The suspension on this thing was really tired so it lowered the bike for me naturally. First dirt bike was a Suzuki DR100. Drum breaks - it sucked! First racebike was a 1994 RS125. Still think it was one of the best looking 125's out there. The older 125 frames polished up really nicely and this bike was just immaculate. I almost cried when the guy we sold it too said he was going to put duct tape over the frame because that type of mod wasn't allowed in the canadian race series. I'm thinking my next first needs to be an italian bike. They sure are purrty! Mary
HI my name is Kozy and I am a cycleholic. My incurable addiction started in the 60's when I learned to ride on Triumph 650 and Honda 250 Scrambler. The first bike I bought was a new 73 Honda 750. I have considered rehab, but to get the same high the sex and drugs would cost to much!!!!!
My first bike way back when was a Honda CL160. Followed by many others, but who would have thought all these years later I would be riding on the track.
My first bike was a Hodaka 100...I am not that old, that bike was. It lasted one summer. When I was 19, I bought a new 82 Honda V45 Sabre...cool bike for that time. I totaled it. Used the insurance $$ to buy a new 1000 Interceptor....better bike...totaled it (both wrecks not my fault) I loved bikes but had a bad taste from them....2 wrecks, 2 totaled bikes, 3 totaled cars!!! I was ok though. Then in 1999 my cousin let me ride his new GSXR600....I was HOOKED again. Ironically in 99 I bought a 84 1000 Interceptor again. Then about 6 more Interceptors until now. I presently ride a 2000 VFR and a 02 RC51. I am SO glad I found this trackday addiction. I have met the friendliest people on earth. Can't wait till April 8,9 at Putnam. Drop by and say HI....02 RC51 #129.....Bill
What Kozy failed to mention is that all those bikes are probably still tucked away in the back of his garage somewhere. The concept of selling a bike is lost on him.
My first bike was a 1977 Yamaha Enduro 100 - learned to "drive" a manual trans. before I could drive. Couldn't get a street bike until college, when my mom softened up a bit. My first street bike was a 1980 Honda CM400T (one of about 300 million sold in the US). After a year of numb-butt syndrome - 6000 rpm in to gear at 60 mph - I got a 1981 Honda CB900 Custom with a Windjammer fairing. When I had that bike, I met up with the guy next door to my parents, who had just replaced his old Kawasaki Z-1 (worked up to about 1300 cc, and with a psychedelic peach paint job) with a new 1992 ZX-11. I rode with him about twice before I realized the fun (and necessity) of hard braking and acceleration. He basically rode the SW Wisconsin backroads at a constant 70 and just turned. I, of course, had to work to keep up. Two years later he went to the CLASS course at Road America, and I lost all hope of keeping up. Anyway, I crashed the CB900 (not my fault) and got a 1993 Yamaha TDM850. (You'll have to look that one up.) I had that a few years, and crashed on a trip to Deal's Gap (my fault). I took a few years off, until my wife softened up a bit. Now I have my first new bike, a 2002 Honda VTR1000 Superhawk. I still ride with the ZX-11 guy - he went through a ZX-6R and now has an R6. I went with him last summer to my first ever track day, the STT event at Road America in August. I'm hooked now, and I hope to do several more track days this year.
My parents refused to let me buy a motorcycle while I was under their roof. But I got plenty of seat time on my friends 80 and 125 dirtbikes.....Fast forward about 13 years.....A friend of mine bought a katana 600 out of the blue. He let me take it out for spin, and I was instantly hooked. So I traded my jetski in on a 2000 Yamaha YZF 600R. And the addiction began.......
Mine was a little 50 cc Yamaha that my Dad bought me when I was 6 or 7. I remember the first time that I rode it too. I just know how to use the gas. I floored it all of the way across the baseball field and slid across the gravel face first. I'm glad that my dad bought me a helmet with a face shield. I rode that thing all of the time. I hope I don't have a repeat right away with the kittly litter at the track.
My first bike was a 2000 Honda Shadow VLX...yeah yeah I didn't know sheit about bikes then. I rode a buddy's VFR and it was all history after that, F3, zx9r, RC51, hawk gt, husky sm610, ZRX, and F3 again. I currently own a 2000 ZRX1100, and my track only f3
My first bike was a 1985 Kawasaki 454 LTD, in 1990. I couldn't afford a sportbike back then even though that's what I wanted. By the way Mom and Dad, don't call the police or tow truck, the motorcycle in the driveway is mine. As a child I wasn't even allowed to visit my friends' homes if they owned a dirt bike, scooter, three wheeler, snowmobile... you get the idea. First ride was on a 1985 Honda 250 Rebel in down town Boston. An eye opening experience to say the least.
I learned to ride on a friend's AMF Harley 175cc on/off road bike. I was in my teens at the time. I didn't purchase a bike of my own till I was out of college and had some income. The first bike was purchased in '86, it was a 1982 Yamaha XS650SJ Heritage Special. HondaGalToo, aka DucatiGal from the Reduc forum
