What kind of lap times were you Intermediate riders turning this weekend?

    I times

this past weekend was my first time in I and I loved it. All last season I was in N.

I got a best of 1:57, which is 2 seconds slower than my last season's best. given that it was my first time on a bike since Nov, I'm happy.

my goal for this season is 1:49

    excellent weekend all around.
I talked my wife into trying I for her last session (normally N); she liked it and intends to move up for the rest of this season, space permitting.

thanks to all. it's always a pleasure to ride with STT. I'm continually amazed at how far people travel to ride. on one side of us, there was a man from RHODE ISLAND (!!); on the other, 2 from WVa.

    Re: I times

Hmm. Sounds pretty similar to me. First time on a track since November (which was my first track day in 3 years), and if you can judge from my video it looks like I was turning pretty similar times.

    Most were running around 1:45

now....i've only been there once....but to say 'most' intermediate riders were turning 1:45.....sounds a bit quick. 'most' would mean to me that the majority....like 2/3 or more were turning that time.

1:45 would put them in the top 12-15 at last year's wera novice 600cc races there. i don't see many stt intermediate riders doing mid-pack wera novice pace. just sayin.

i'd be glad to be corrected....but i would think 1:45 is on the quicker end of the intermediate spectrum. i would think the majority of intermediate riders on a nice average day at barber would be running in the 1:45-2:00 range.

1:45 is a VERY strong I group time, for most of the field to be doin that would be hard for me to believe.

if i recall right, majority of I riders at barber run 1:55-2:10 pace.

I was pretty consistently running 1:52-1:54, with a best of 1:51 on a 600. There certainly were faster guys out there, particularly on the literbikes, but I felt pretty quick most of the time at that pace.
My best last year was 1:47, which was when I had those "Oh, yeah!!" type of laps. Hope to be back at that pace soon, not so much because of the lap time itself but because it made me feel like everything was clicking the way it was supposed to be ...

Having ridden Barber for a number of years now I would say this was a faster than average I group this weekend..... not sure what the lap times were as I didn't have a timer on.... but it felt pretty quick...

Cool! I ran a best of 2:01 in N and was curious how that compared to I. Maybe I will get the hang of this soon!

I appreciate everyone's input. I had a hunch and I'm glad to hear that I was correct. After a 3 year hiatus from the track I've been reluctant to sign up for intermediate, but it sounds like my comfort level should be coming back soon.

That's surprising, I commented a couple of times to friends that it seemed slow to me.

I was running mostly 1:50-2 and pretty much wading through the pack (I got passed I think less than 4 times). I did crack off a 47 but only one. Normally I can run 47-8 average time.

Though for reference to the original poster I also run "A" at that pace some weekends (being a back marker instead of a pack leader).

IMO either wait until your times drop below 2 and/or ask a CR for an opinion. There was people run 2:00+ this weekend but they were steady so I just tried to make the passes bigger since I remember being them (well I was less steady  )

I was going by the Kentucky boys times. All three were running 1.45 or below I thought. May not have been the majority

    Oh well

I was out there once and most seemed to be running 1:50+-. I think everybody is still out of shape from Christmas. :)

I was doing very well. I hit a 1.42.28 with an average of 1.44 and some change. That was next to the last lap of the second session on sunday session for me . But mostly 1.43s to 1.45s most of the time. I was running an 05 blue R6 with Yam leathers. Layed it down day two in turns 2-3. But thats ok, got get rid of that factory suspention it finaly bit me.

Jimbo, stop using that Winfield, Alabama math son! I instructed "I" all weekend, and didn't see an average close to 1:45 for the overall group.
