Currently running a K6 1000 and want to upgrade my MC. There is currently a recall on the MC through Suzuki and before I go and have them replace this, I wanted to do something a bit better.

I have seen some talk about swapping out the MC with a '05 - '07 R1 Brembo unit or a Duc 999 MC. Not real sure what year Duc. though

    Has anyone done either?

Do you have to retain the original lever with the unit for it to function correctly or can I use the lever I have on MC currently and transfer it over?

Figured I could buy a unit off of eBay for fairly cheap and mount it up with little to no modifications and have something much better than I currently do or what Suz would put on it.

get the recall done and sell the good MC to buy an accosoto or brembo unit ... i have a 2007 r1 with the stock brembo MC and i can stop on a dime with steel lines and vesrah pads, love the set up

I would think that the new MC won't be worth much. And with the recall in effect. ...anyone with this same year/model bike won't need to buy it. Like many others, I don't really trust dealership mechanics. I've allways been the guy who teens to do everything themself. I know it'll get done right the first time. If I can't do it, I take it to MMS for the work.

I have steel lines and great pads. ...just need to upgrade the main culprit. Just don't know which route to go.

I just finished up my '08 GSX-R 750 track bike, replacing the stock Suzuki front brakes with '08 R6 calipers squeezing a new set of Vesrah SRJL-XX pads. I also installed a R6 (Brembo made) Master cylinder to complete the setup. I have not ridden it yet, as I just finished it up today. I have a good friend that has ridden the 750 GSX-R's for quite some time and this is, according to him, a very, very good setup for the bike and improves the braking tremendously. I actually have a 2014 R1 master with a stock lever (Brembo made) that I will probably sell.

Do you have to retain the original lever? Would like to swap my levers over to the new mc....

Did you have to add spacers or do any fabrications?

I was contemplating the r1 mc, '09 and up brembo calipers with my steel lines. ....
But if the r1/r6 calipers are a better option and more cost effective. ...that's a no brainer.

But right now. ..my main focus is the MC.
Let me know how you like the new stopping power

If I'm not mistaken, you will have to use whatever lever that fits a particular Master. As an example, I left the OEM Suzuki clutch perch on the bike, so that side has a CRG lever made to fit a 2008 Suzuki clutch. On the brake side however, I put a CRG R6 lever on the R6 Master. Every motorcycle manufacturer makes their own levers that are specific to their bikes, although sometimes they use the same master on several different bikes in their own lineup.

As far as my setup goes, the R6 calipers will fit on the GSXR 750, but you have to change out the spacer that fits between the caliper and the front fork. I bought mine from TWF Racing and swapped them out, using the same bolts that were in the original OEM calipers.......you are only talking a few millimeters of spacer thickness, so no big deal.

    With the 06 1000 rotors being 310mm, you'll need a 2mm spacer for the R6 calipers.

I have the same setup on my SV650 and it's incredible. So good that I'm spoiled and the setup on my recently acquired GSXR feels lame in comparison.

    Completely makes since.

So basically. ...what I'm gathering is that swapping suzuki's system with a R1 brembo mc and monblocks is the sure way to go?

Ultimately. ....I'm just want to have a deeper braking point. But with my system now, i don't feel confident to push the my current breaking points/ markers.

So I guess the question that comes into play here is this. Are you uncomfortable because of the bike's brakes...or lack thereof, or are you uncomfortable pushing the bike deeper in and braking harder?

Differently because of the brake system. I have to bleed the brakes before every track day and by session 4...they are nearly done. I have had to bleed the brakes during a t-day a couple of times because of fade and a spongy lever.

This is the main reason suzuki has the recall out.

But in the same breath. ..i can say having a better break system will instil a higher lever confidence all around.

After my install yesterday, of the R6 master and bleeding the system to get all the air out of it, I tied the lever back to the grip and left it overnight. This morning, I went out to the garage to check on it, both to make sure there were no leaks of any kind and to see how much improvement there was in the lever. Talk about a firm lever....the lever only moves about 3/8" before starting to engage the brakes and even squeezing it much harder than you could while actually braking (unless you wanted to do a stoppie from hell and throw you over the front of the bike), the lever probably didn't move a full inch.....probably less. I have no doubt that this setup is going to be a monster for braking.

That's the kind of reviews everyone likes to hear. Can wait for the road test update.

    What calipers are you running?
And what company sells the spacers?

You're welcome. I'm just learning and getting into this myself. I've been on Hondas mostly since the early 80s. The GSX-R 750 is my first Suzuki and I've been fortunate to get some good info from several people that have a lot of experience with them. I'm really hoping that the bike works out well for me, since I sold my track only 600RR about a month and a half ago.

When it comes to the calipers.....will the newer model R1 calipers work? They are a 3 piston system vs the 2004-2006 calipers that are a 2 piston system. I'm looking into a 2009 and up caliper system.

Just want to make sure they will work before pulling the trigger on a system I am looking at.

3 piston will not work. The spacing is too wide for anything but R1 forks. You want R6 calipers from 06 and up or R1 calipers from 04 - 06. The R1 calipers look exactly the same as the R6 except the color in case I got the years wrong.

The 2009 GSXR 1000 calipers are also very good and bolt right up with no spacers and use the same GSXR pads, pad pins, and caliper mounting bolts.
