No doubt dragging knee is a cool feeling.
If you haven't done it, or only seldom, then it still excites you.

Keep in mind, dragging knee is friction, like a small brake.
It only slows you down. Sure, you may occasionally drag a knee on the track, but you'll be faster if you almost drag your knee.

I have benefited from dragging knee on occasion. Started to low side, used dragging knee to pick me up. But, for the most part it just slows you down.

Watch moto gp, those guys come close to dragging elbow and shoulder, but just rememder friction equals brake.

that's funny because when my knee touches I pick it up, call me cheap but those pucks get expensive.

It's all about corner speed and body position. Also, knee pucks get expensive.

It is very much about the geometry too...

My R6 is very very tall and it takes quite a pace to drag a knee.

on my F4i and 600RR i could drag knee in novice everywhere.

but, i became a knee puck conserver too LOL

also remember, the more weight on your nee, the less on your rear tire.
drag your knee to gauge/feel the lean. not to use up a set of knee pucks in a weekend. ;)

This physics is actually pretty complex. When you push on the slider you are unweighting tires (increased contact area with same weight) however the puck has less drag and grip so it negatively affects traction. Now if the tire is sliding the grip also changes for the tire and the less weighting might make it grip again. Of course all of these effects fight each other so it is not a simple do this. Oh and if you can ride at the margin where this matters either you are getting paid a TON of money or soon to be testing the physics of leather drag over blacktop.

I was able to touch my knee more and more but now because I was going faster throughout the whole turn I gotta say it feels ok but I wasn't very like crazy about it.

I learned a whole lot this weekend. Smooth on my brakes smooth on my gas and speed comes up on its own. I got bump up to I so it was a very good weekend at ACC

I love dragging knee even that I'm still slow. I remember when I started riding on the track that was my goal. I've reached it the first day ... and then I crashed on the second lol. Now, my R6 is so tall that I have to be on my toes to reach the ground, but I still drag knee as much as I can and I love it. The only problems was the short life of the A* knee pucks. Even with the best ones they sell I did only few track days. So I bought the ones from vortex and did one day with them so far and I love them. It looks they will last way longer than A*. Maybe after few years of riding I'll become a puck conserver but it's not going to happen any time soon :D

yesterday dragging was slowing me tho so as mentioned above i would drop knees to guage lean but id pull it back into the bike and put it out every now an again if i felt like i was getting squirely just to have it there as a brace if the back wheel slid .. technique has saved me in the past

I don't drag knees at all. Sometimes I touch the ground for a second to to judge lean angle but then I lift it a little. No point of dragging it all the time. I've never replaced knee pucks on any of my suits :D

My boot sliders touch the pavement but my knees do not.. Bad body position?

You need to correct your body position......you should not be dragging any hard parts.....you're leaning the bike to far and not yourself........get off the bike more......:thumb:

Dragging toe sliders is a problem. You need to get some rearsets if you don't already have them, stock rearsets are usually too low. Also, more importantly, you need to work on your body position, you're carrying way too much lean angle, the next thing that will be draggin is you and your bike, as you slide down the track.

ive been told my BP is pretty good and yes i know i need rearsets and yes i lean alot but i think thats due to my speed in those corners? i mean t1 or is it 2? the sharp right after the straight ... anywho i was only doing it last few sessions so maybe it was due to too much speed for the corner, physical exhaustion, and rearset height .. either way i was dead tired and im sure i had poor BP the last session or 2

    thanks guys

    rearsets will be nxt mod

Finally touched yesterday on the R6 at Mid Ohio! lol I just needed to man up and carry some corner speed.

BTW Power Cup v-front is absolutely amazing. I thought I was gonna lowside 3-4 times and the front just stuck like glue.

    ^^^

Yep same thing with me on the R6. With race rear-sets and good body position, took
me to turn a 1:33 at Grattan to say, ahhhh, there it is.
