Hey guys, I just put a new set of Q3's on my R6 and was wondering what tire pressure you guys have been running? I have been reading all kinds of different numbers. I ran 30f 28r cold on the Q2's, but I read an article by Dave Moss saying pressures around 27f 25r cold were the best settings. That seems awfully low for a street tire, but I heard the carbon siding allows you to run low pressures like a race tire. I will be in the advanced group. Thanks!

What hot pressures right off the track were you getting?

Dave Moss likely has more experience than anyone here, I'd go with that.

i ran warmers on them with no problems or overheating/greasy issues at all and got excellent wear with with those starting pressures ended up being 29-30f and 26.5-28r hot off track first but the day started a crisp 32* with ice on the track and my final session was about 60* and sunny .. the elbow was the session before lunch, turn 3 at heartland park in topeka kansas and it was only my 2nd session of the day .. sat out first session after the first group out came back and said they were skating around 4 icy turns ... just to give an idea of the conditions etc. that day

Okay cool thanks for the info. I'm gonna set them to 25r 27f cold and 30f 28r hot off track and see how it goes.

I ran a set of the Q3's on my FZ09 last November at Road Atlanta. As I recall, the temperatures during that event was in the mid 60's F. I ran 25psi rear and 27psi front, cold tire pressure as per the info from Dave Moss. They heated up quickly and stuck very well for a street tire with absolutely no issues other than the crappy suspension on the FZ09s, which I have since replaced with a Penske double clicker in the rear and stiffer springs and heavier fork oil up front.

I have been running these since last September and ride a middle to top pace Intermediate. My fastest at Barber before my bonehead move was in the 1:46 and had plenty in the tank.

Back to the tires though. I usually start in the morning with 25f and 25r and check them when coming in for pressure increase since I do not have a way of checking temp. Usually after lunch I have dropped to a 23f and 21 r which effectively gives me a 28f and 26-28r at the end of the sessions. No slipping wear is same or better than what Dave Moss has talked about. This is on a 1000RR just so you know.

I ran 26/26 and it worked great. Started with 30/30, not so great

I ran my Q2's at 30/30 cold and adjusted a bit lower in later sessions. Not sure if the Q3 requires lower psi than the Q2. I switched to Pirelli DRC and haven't looked back.

Curious about the 'Stone S20 Evo when it's released in the US.

Damn there's a s20 evo coming out. I just bought a set of the regular s20

I was deciding between the q3 and the s20.

Dave seemed to like both so I went with the s20 because I'm a bit if a bridgestone fan. I might try the q3 next though.

I went with 30f 28r hot, or 27f 25r cold and they stuck like glue all day. I had to keep dropping pressures as the ambient temp rose as expected. Thanks for the info!

Good to hear. They are a pretty good tire for track/street use.

The Q3's are probably one of the best all-around tires in the Galaxy. :D Heat up quick (as all street tires do), are good for up to an Advanced pace while also being good on the street and in the rain.

Nice to hear someone praise the Q3's. Nothing wrong with beepating the Michelin drum as well but for those of us on a tight budget the DunlopQ3's just offer exceptional value.

I had a race tire supplier (not David Grey) try to tell me why they are a crappy tire and how if I wanted to be fast I needed to be on Michelins . Being the guy i am (always seemed to find trouble) I just had to tell him off. I told him that I do not disagree that Michelin has great tires but telling me that Dunlop Q3's are a terrible tire is not a way to convince me to ride on Michelins. Heck I spent over an hour on the phone with Dave Grey one afternoon just talking tires. Even he did not trash talk a very popular tire. He just stated that he felt confident that I would be safer and faster on the Michelin . Just like the Moto GP guys some people are just faster on certain tires, I personally have never felt confident it the way the bike moves around on Michelins at speed but know that many love them and offen recommend them to riders as the tire of choice but also add that if you are looking for value the Dunlops are usually $100 cheaper a set and offer comparable performance in grip. They just have a different handling characteristic than the Michelins. To each his own I guess. I will try the Michelins again next year and see if the race tires are better for me, but their street/track tires do no give me the same confidence.

All modern tires from reputable companies are good. For every person that doesn't like a certain brand, there is somebody else out there winning National Championships on that same brand.

There is no "best tire" there is simply a "best tire for you". It all comes down to which ones give you the most confidence and feel the best to you. It is personal preference more than anything.

Michelins are very good, that is a fact. I still say the Michelin Cup DOT VB Front is one of the best tires I have ever used.

But with that being said, I am currently on Pirelli's and will be for the foreseeable future. They have a softer carcass and not everyone likes the way the feel, move around and "squish". But personally, I love them. I love the feel and feedback. I have the utmost confidence in them, front and rear, and that is what matters. :)

Wow you guys are running some low pressures.. Maybe I need to give them a shot next time out as well. I emailed Dunlop when I first mounted mine to see what they suggested, and below is their response… For what it is worth I am not the fastest guy out there by any means, but I've not had them slip at all yet, and have three weekends on them already.

    Hi Chris,

We appreciate your contact and for riding DUNLOP !

The best and easiest way to set your tire pressure is to start at 33psi cold front and 31psi rear, do a track session, then as soon as you come off the track, check your pressures and adjust them to 35 front and 34 rear for the Q3s. Don't be worried to try +-2psi depending on how polished or corse the track surface is. Lower psi for more polished tracks and higher psi for more course tracks.

We hope that you find this information helpful.
