Dunlop Q3 pressure

    I have never ran lower than 30/30 on any street tire (which the Q3 is). Street tires are not designed to be run at such low pressure. If ran at a good pace with low pressure, they will overheat, get greasy and wear out fast.

    Even on race tires, I run 32-34psi hot off the warmers on the front depending on the brand.

    Just to revisit this thread this past trackday at Heartland Park I ran my usual suspects Q3's. Only this time I was pitted with Good Grip Racing (James Hammon) so we decided to monitor my pressures as well as change what I had been using as cold starting pressure.

    Both days were in the 90's with Saturday being he hottest of the two days. We started by setting pressures at 30f/25r rather than my traditional 25f/21r. With 30 in the front I NEVER had to adjust pressure once. Every session I went out from a 79 degree start to a 97 degree finish for the day the front tire consistently returned a 2.5-3 PSI gain from cold to hot. Front end was rock solid in the corners and under braking prior to this with my 25 I am sure the bike would have been squirming on the brakes going into the bus stop.
    The rear was a different story in that with 25 psi I was getting anywhere from 2-5 PSI gain through out the day from start to finish. Carcass temp for the front tire was between 145-160 degrees all day long obviously the higher temp being in the afternoon. The rear temps were from 150-175, and believe it or not (wish I would have taken pics) they looked like they were still experiencing some cold tearing.
    Sunday I left the front at 30 PSI and dropped the rear to 23 cold and never touched them again. For the feast of the day. Sunday both front and rear returned the same 3 PSI gain over cold every session thought the day. Tire wear became very consistant with no more cold tearing. If anything I only need to adjust the rebound in the rear shock which may have contributed to some of the funky wear on Saturday. Here is a couple pics of tire wear at those pressures.

    Wow those are low...

    Im novice material and ran 32/ 32 and felt awesome.
    Whats the advantage of running that low when at novice?

    Don't know that there are any advantages really just adding to this thread basically for information purposes only. Obviously the contact patch is gonna be greater at lower pressures. Obviously as well you can see by my comments that you could compromise the feel or handling of the bike when you are too low.
    Really just wanted to give some scientific results rather than the whole "well I run this pressure" or if you run pressures that low on a street tire they get greasy" granted my pace is probably upper intermediate to lower advance depending on who is grading me. Just because you are in Novice does not mean your pace is not great enough for lower pressures, chances are if you have the pace you are only there because that's where we all start.

    Your experience with the front closely mimics Team Gixxer's with the Q2. I had heard (including Dave Moss) that the rear likes less air to start, closer in line to the GPA Tires...
