Blue painter's tape over where the tail light & plate hanger go. Neon green vest & BAKER on the back of my leathers should give me away.
Will do. My wife and I decided that its best if I no longer leave the house at 4am for a single track day. From now on if I can't make it out there the night before I'm not going. By the second session after lunch I was so fried, my average lap time droped from the 1:28 - 1:29 range I was running in the morning to 1:38s. Thats why I packed it in so early. I even had to pull off at a rest stop and take a little nap on the way home.
No problem steve it was fun riding w/you! Grattan is one of my favorite tracks and i always learn something new everytime there. Yeah, alot of fast guys and a few tumbles, i know i had my paint sucked off a few times......Mr Kraft , it was great!! Kirk
I don't disagree - holding a line and such is very important. Some of the speed differences and the sheer number of crashes and red flags should throw up a "red flag" - no pun intended. It's in the best interest of everyone to move people to the correct group. I understand no one wants to be the bad guy. I should have said something and am guilty of that, as I told Sally halfway through the day.
Well, hear it from a rider who just switched to the A-group two track-days ago... I would rather a reputable person (STT Staff) tell me that I am not fast enough, or holding a correct line, than for them to all talk about me on the forums after the event. I'm not speaking for anyone else, but I'm sure a lot of others in any group would think the same way. So, please don't feel like a "bad guy" by doing that - it's a task that has potential for saving lives... think of it that way  Either way, the crashes seemed to be about equal between all of the groups throughout the weekend. Novice had more crashes than I think I've ever seen at this track. :?
Another vid from Sunday advanced group. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSXly6UtMws DJ Baker never did recognize you in any of my footage. There about a min of footage of a rider on what looks like a honda with Joerocket leathers, anybody recognize him? Later Steve
That was me on the Honda . I was a little off my game that day, sorry if I held you up. It was a bad day Nice video though
Hey Jig, was just sifting through the pics you took, great stuff! Lots of different viewpoints etc...I think you suck a little less this time (wait..what? damn)
You looked good from my seat, didn't do anything to make me nervious about passing you 8) . Works for me. For the camera I'm just using a Sony Handycam DCR-HC21. I made a mount for it so it sits just on the front of the gas tank and doesn't get in the way like the ones that mount to the gas cap. Takes very good quality video I just need to remember to clean the windscreen. Steve
Thanks for checking. Still fun to watch. You caught some nice action! Nice work breaking into the 29s too!!
I took some too. Damn it looks shakey after watching yours Steve! I've got to find a better mounting spot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcu-bT44QP8
Here's a question for you racers. I'm thinking about racing but wonder how I'll fit in speed wise. Sunday last session for example ave lap was 1:32 with a fast lap just below 1:30. Are these Ok times to start racing with? Looks like Senior Superbike Heavy for me with my gsxr 750. Thanks Steve
depends on what your goals are. check out www.wera.mylaps.com to see where your times would put you. 1:30 would put you around: 9th out of 11 in 750 superstock novice 6th out of 9 in 750 superbike novice 5th out of 8 in 1000 superstock novice 4th out of 7 in 1000 superbike novice 2nd out of 4 in HW senior superbike novice
Jig, I'm just trying to have fun while increasing my skills, won't be chasing any titles or anything like that. Even if I wanted to my work schedule won't allow for that. Hoping to get my feet wet in the Senior class to see how I like it and then go from there. Later Steve
I would suggest looking at the lap times of the leaders and doing the math to find out if you would get lapped. I got lapped in my first race and it sucked. Grattan backwards, leader jams up the inside of me into 9 then second stuffs him. Now we are 3 wide through the apex and I'm pooping in my pants. It all ended well, but was less than fun at the time. At and event like the Grattan National the ludicrous fast guys (knapp etc) could average 12 sec a lap faster than you. I would avoid combine grids with the experts as that would give them enough laps to catch you. Your times would be plenty fine for Novice.
