Who is gonna be there? :D

I just signed myself up in Advanced and my girlfriend Lora will be riding in Novice.

Neither one of us have laid eyes on the track before. And personally, I SUCK at learning new tracks. Hopefully by the end of the 2nd day I won't get lapped quite as often.

Oh yeah, Richard and David, since you guys didn't chip in on diesel at Tally you can give me a pull around Grattan and we will call it even. :p

    Oh Yes, Grattan again.
I did the Apex/AFJ track day on 8-22 and had a blast.
Looks like 1st group novice for me, my lines are clean, just need to keep speed deeper into the apex and work on hanging off.
    Love that track !!!!
    See U there.

I'm scheduled for both days, the last Grattan weekend is always a nice finish to the season for me.

Great track, has a bit of everything. All the coaches have a pile of laps around the place. I'm not fast like David or Richard but I would be happy to show you around the track to get you started Saturday.

That would be excellent Rick; I would appreciate it.

My biggest weakness is learning new tracks. It normally takes me weekends (plural) to get up to a race pace at a new track. I don't know why; I guess it is because of my lack of riding time in general or because I don't have any dirt bike experience or maybe because I just suck in general. But it takes me a long time to get fast (or at least my version of fast) at a new track.

But i am looking forward to Grattan. I heard it has lots of different type corners and is alot of fun.

Im also looking forward to meeting some of the Northern guys.

How will the weather be in October at Grattan? Will it already be cold?

It could be 75 and sunny or it could be "other" but it will be fun either way!

What about gearing there for a 600-ish bike?

It seems like i read somewhere that Grattan has a long ass straightaway. Do 600's run stock gearing?

FWIW, i run stock gearing at Road Atlanta, VIR and Roebling.

You do not likely want the same gearing as RA or VIR... unless you want to run it as a 5 speed. The front is not nearly as fast as those 2 tracks. I go 2 up in the rear (or equivalent F/R ratio) from my gearing there.

Here is some footage from my bike the first time I rode it there. It should help with shift points and brake markers. It's not perfect, but will give you a starting point.

    Excellent, thanks for the help.

Right now I am -1/0. I will leave that on there and see how it feels and go from there.

I appreciate the video, that was going to be my next request. :D

I have been studying a track map but the video will be much better.

I thought the track was repaved. Or is that video from before the repave? Or was it only a partial repave?

It looks like it might be a hard track to learn. Lots of curves, blind spots etc.

But it looks fun and like it has a good flow to it. Im looking forward to it.

I am hoping I can make it out to this event. I don't want to wait till next year to really try out the new race tires.

Looks like that video is 2010 so that was only partial, it was finished for this year. Most of the turns are blind, its cool you will love it. I have been running -1 on the front from VIR gearing on a R6.

Yes, that's from early 2010. It's the only video I have where you can see the tach, which you may find helpful because you can see when I'm on/ off the gas and shifting. Like I said, it was the first time on that bike at Grattan, so it's not perfect, but will get you close.

Most of the turns are blind, so find somebody to follow your first couple of sessions.

    Option #1 - AmericInn - Greenville, MI

Option #2 - Candlestone Resort - Belding, MI

Both are nice and close to the track. Option #1 has a hot tub and pool... Option #2 has a resturant/bar downstairs.
