Nope, just a good'ol 4 door sedan. You can see the spoiler in the corner of the pic... This was a genny loaded trip and a set of mounted rains and two 5 gallon gas cans too. since we ride share, it's kinda like getting almost 40mpg (in essence):bounce: But believe me, if we could afford a full sized van and a 6x10 enclosed, I'd be all over it... heck I'd be happy with just the van.
I can remember thinking my 8x20' was a HILTON on wheels.... tons of room.... I would NEVER fill that thing..... Heh.... right.... t
I wouldn't go smaller than 7 x 16, unless it's just one of us riding. 6 x 12 was okay just for me or if occasionally someone came with me. I've hauled 3 bikes too, but it gets really crowded. Sick and tired of jumping over the bikes in the trailer. 7 x 16 is friggin awesome!!! Just about enough room for two people and three great danes camping LOL
I'm thinking that's what I want, but that gets me into a double axle, which means more toll road money, but the space would be nice.
Nah toy hauler would be nice, but I screw shit into the walls etc, I'm not doin that to a nice toy hauler.
I have a 8.5 X 24 X 7.5 trailer. I am 6_5 and with boots and helmet on, I kept hitting my head, so I opted for the extra height. If I did it over, I think I would go with 8.0 X 18 X 7.6 30" Vnose trailer. But I have a dodge Ram 2500 diesel, and I get 13 mpg pulling the big trailer. If I went down to the 18 Vnose I would probably be close to 18mpg. I ride my bike 90% of the time for work, and the 2500 with 4 adults, and nothing being pulled gets 22.5 mpg all day long on the highway, and 17.5 commuting. And if I keep it at 67.5 I can get a solid 25mpg on the highway. Once I start running 70+ it drops a lot. However I have another issue, many times I cannot get to a track before the gates close. So I "camp" in my trailer. I need room for two bikes, all the gear and two beds. In addition when I bought my rig, I had many friends I thought we could share trips with, so I went with a three bike, 3 bed set up. As it has turned out, that happened only once. 50% of the time it is just me, and 50% of the time there are two of us. With that new knowledge I will probably look to sell my 8.5 X 24 trailer and look for a 8.0 X 18 vnose trailer. Maybe even a 8.0 X 16 Vnose. Either way I will still get the 7.5 ceiling height.
I also have a 5x8 open trailer, basically same set up and pull with a VW GTI It's kind of a pain but it works. I'd much rather get an enclosed but then there is the matter of what I tow it with. All comes back to what you want to spend your money on. If money is no object, I'd say bigger is almost always better. But in the end it's how big a trailer can you afford, how big a tow vehicle and how big a fuel bill. I will say this, if I do get an enclosed, I certainly won't get rid of the 5x8 open trailer, it's one of the most usefull things I own. You can haul anything with it, it's like owning a pickup truck. I've actually been contemplating this a lot, I like being able to adapt so I've been thinking something like a minivan and single axle enclosed, that way if it's just me then I can put a bike in the van and leave the trailer behind, but if I need to bring more things I can haul the trailer. It seems when you get a really big trailer you end up being the "ride" for all of your friends, that could be good or bad depending on your outlook and your friends. btw, this thread would be better with pics, as most are IMO.
Love my 7x16 (18 wth V). We fit a queen mattress and a twin mattress with room to spare. Spend many weekends with all three of us plus two chihuahua's keeping guard.
I had a 5x8 open trailer, but that meant that I had to have a place to store everything plus load and unload everything for every trip. I bought an enclosed trailer so that I could leave all of my track only gear loaded. Now I don't have to worry about forgetting things or loading/unloading all of that gear. I did have to rent a spot at the local Public Storage to park it, but I don't have any space in my driveway for a trailer.
We survive ok with a 6x10. With some careful planning we've managed to get 3 full sized bikes and 3 people's worth of gear in there in a pinch. Works a lot better with just 2. We've had many, many, discussions about getting something bigger, but that would mean a bigger tow vehicle and really, getting a bigger trailer just means you end up filling it with more crap... which means then you want a bigger trailer again... rinse... repeat.
That's a really good point about not having to unload and load and always worry about forgetting something. I'd like that.
