Looking over the videos I got this past weekend at RA, 60% of my passing was between apex of T1 and bottom of the Esses, mostly thru the T3 sweeper into the right hander....
The Ama chicane makes it one line from T2-T5... Should be interesting..

    Not necessarily. :)

As previously mentioned, there is a single fastest line through there (as in a qualifying line)...but it is very much possible to go through there 2-3 wide.

Certainly, if I felt there was clear evidence that one way or the other was safer, I would pick the safest option. I certainly have high respect for JRA's opinion, as I do yours, and others..... again, I don't think there is a concern for safety one way or the other in this situation.

This is why turn 12 is not up for discussion - it seems to be pretty much everyone's opinion that the new turn 12 is safer for motorcycles.

Brian, I hope you can make it - it will be good to see you.

Can one of the I coaches show me how to go through the chicane?

And for new T12, do you just pin it to win it under the Suzuki bridge staying on the outside? (only ran old config)

    +1

I can help you out through both sections also.

To answer your question about the new T12...yes...that is what i do. I stay WOT and to the left as i come under the bridge and stay WOT as i head down the hill until time to brake. You don't necessarily "steer" to the left, you let your speed through 10a/b and up the hill push you out to the left. You know what i mean.

Assuming you are geared high enough to be able to stay on the gas all the way around T9 and down the hill a good ways before braking...you should be able to carry 2nd gear through 10a, 10b, up the hill, under the bridge and down the hill a lil bit before you brake for T12.

Depending on your drive up the hill and your gearing, you may have to short-shift into 3rd right before cresting the hill coming under the bridge to keep the front end down and allow you to stay on the gas. But it may not be necessary; it all depends. And then if you do short-shit into 3rd, go back down into 2nd as you brake for T12.

But it is something you will need to kinda work into because the front end gets light and will come up. So just work your way into it. I don't want you to come under the bridge WFO, have the front end fly up and then be like "well Chris told me to". :D

Also work into how far you carry your speed down the hill into T12. It is common for people to lose the front in T12.

There is a real flow through that 10-12 section and once you get it, it is really fun. It is one of my favorite sections in the SE.

For those asking about the new T12... use the colored blocks for a reference just like before, but of course a different block, or a different letter on teh bridge.

I dont take the crest too far left. I drive off of 10b, short shift to 3rd up the hill, and aim for my marker under the bridge which still has me drifting left as I crest and still drifting left about halfway down the hill. There are TWO hills. As you crest under the bridge is one, and then it rolls again. Be ready for it to want to wheelie twice sometimes. As I crest the second part I pick up a marker on the outside edge I am aiming for into my braking zone, grab a downshift and try to keep the chassis steady as I get ready to pitch it in for T12. The turn in for T12 is earlier than I feel like it should be (in my head) as the bike takes time to come to grips with the downhill I guess and if I turn where it visually seems like ai should I am ALWAYS late to the apex or miss it completely. STand it up and pour the coals to it :D

Joe, should they aim for the first or second "S" coming under the bridge? :D

I've walked RA more than once, and never did I put together why I sometimes wind up pulling two wheelies headed into the new 12. Hmmm. My ninja 250 can do clutch wheelies... I wonder if I can get it to power wheelie there....

That was pure quality right there. :pound:

The only thing that would have made it better would have been if i would have done/said it on purpose. :pound:

:thumb:. Yup. I cant recall if the OLD T12 rolled over twice (I dont think it did) but the new one has the crest under the bridge, then another a bit past that which can set the bike off too. I try to lightly wheelie from the first PAST the second :D

I know right. I laughed for an entire session at least about it :lmao:
