At road America yesterday they said they wouldn't be posting them online, so maybe the same is true for ACC?

I could have sworn they said they'd be posted online during the rider's meeting at ACC. Maybe someone with better memory can confirm.

Yeah, they will post them online, but only because their rig was not available to let us preview them trackside. They have said before how posting them online doesn't make sense from a business standpoint, so I think they avoid it when they can.

I check here occasionally to see if they were posted:

I noticed the May 18th pics went up this past weekend. I'm guessing they are 2-3 weeks behind. Hoping to see something by next week.

understandably it doesnt make sense since people will screenshot or take pics of the pics on their computers but they will im sure make some money off them once they are put up .. they will make nothing if they dont, and going out to acc shooting for 3 days would have been a waste of resources and time

My buddy talked to them at Road America about the ACC pics. Apparently the hard drive got corrupted and has been sent out to a company that is trying to recover the files.

Oh wow... Hopefully they can get it fixed, otherwise that's a lot of money out of their pocket. Photographers should always immediately backup their files to a second hard drive, I'm surprised after 3 days of shooting it's only on one hard drive regardless. Maybe it's just a rumor though; I just can't see a business that shoots 10k+ photos in a weekend not backing them up somehow.

    Hello All,

What was noted above was correct. We hired a subcontractor, Jake Galstad, to shoot the ABCC Memorial Day event. Jake has worked for us on and off for 1.5 years. We have never had a problem with Jake to this point. Leslie and I could not be at ABCC, as we were at Lime Rock Park, CT with IMSA for a pro car race.

Unfortunately, Jake didn't back up your event, against our policy and agreement, and when he went to upload them this past Monday, 5 days post the start of the event, he found his HD read empty. He panicked and called me. He is a great guy and a very accomplished young photographer, he just assumed his new LaCie HD was stable and he was wrong, very wrong.

As you can imagine, we are very upset about this and Jake has been well advised of our frustration. The HD was overnighted this past Monday to a data recovery specialist and I hope to have an answer asap. We will upload immediately upon it's return, assuming good news. Fingers crossed.

Sideline Sports Photography has been in business 22 years and has never lost an image since going fully digital in 2000. Jake is as disappointed in himself as we are in him. He simply didn't follow protocol and it burned him, us and you all.

On a side note, the "it seems to work for other photographers" per web posting is always noted here and we've taken the time to explain this many times, but I would like to do it again. Our company is far larger and partakes in far more photo shoots, as well as shoots far more images at each shoot, utilizing 2-3 photographers at 90% of our events. For Example, from May 1 through June 5, we had shoots at Laguna Seca, Circuit of the Americas, Daytona, Sebring, Barber, Lime Rock, Mid Ohio, Detroit GP, Road America (three) and Autobahn (three), totaling 4.2 TB of photos. We are just arriving at Kansas Speedway, as I wrote, for a pro car race (IMSA). Our rig rolled 18,000 miles last month and we flew in photographers to multiple shoots around the US, six to be exact. We often have three photo shoots going on at the same time across the world (often in Asia and Europe) and we shoot an average of around 30,000 photos per event.

Absolutely nothing against any of the other photographers shooting STT, but none of the others shooting STT events have this many events to cover in short periods of time. Most don't shoot all year, actually, but are seasonal, as well. Actually, Leslie and I have not been home one night since February 12 and we've been home 14 days since October 23, 2013, really only at Christmas. We simply go from track to track to track, often in the rig, often on planes, and have contract photographs doing the same every weekend. Due to our travel, having access to the internet speeds necessary to upload 1-1.5TB per week is virtually impossible for us.

We watch these forums and see most web based photographers placing their images online from 12-18 days, some longer. We see the frustration and understand it, but we simply cannot do it faster and our web timeline is traditionally on par with the others. Please relate that the initial post here came 8 days after the event was over.

A look at our calendar since the STT Memorial Day event sees we shot at Lime Rock, Mid Ohio, Detroit GP and Road America for STT, having four days not shooting and all four were spent driving from Lime Rock to Mid Ohio (11 hours), Mid Ohio to Detroit Bell Isle (4.5 hours), Detroit Bell Isle to Road America (9 hours) and Road America to Kansas Speedway (11 hours). Every "off day" was a major drive, and then we have to unload and reload the rig on the travel days, about 1.5 hours each.

We could put more staff into producing the products, but it would raise our prices, something we do not want to do and we don't feel you'd want to pay for.

In conclusion, we are very, very sorry and upset at the data corruption issue Jake experienced while working for us and we hope to have it resolved as immediately as possible.

In accordance with the delay, I will drop the prices 25% off our our normal pricing on the website for this event. I will post here as soon as we have an answer from the data recovery firm as to status or where to look at the photos.

    My sincere apologies.

    Thank you,

    Michael

Maybe they are too big, by the explanation.
Maybe there should be an alternative.
Does STT have a standing deal with the group?
Can there be more than one photographer at an event so people have a choice?
In a free market, a little competition is generally a good thing.
Not trying to step on any toes, just thinking out loud.

Yeah. I assume they have "done the numbers" plenty and their way is probably more profitable for them.

The competition idea is actually a great one. Maybe having a company there who isn't so big (maybe local, too) who runs an online store.

I know there are plenty of riders out there who a) don't want to just drop another 100+ bucks that day because they saw a couple pictures they liked.

and b) can be more likely to spend more after a week or two has passed and they've gone through the store and found a good amount they liked (and perhaps have just gotten paid :lmao:)

I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death. I'll just leave it at that.

We've worked with other orgs in the photo field and it didn't always work out. those permitted access to our customers must have a proven work record, a good business model, integrity of person and service, and are simply honest.

Certainly this shouldn't happen, but everyone makes a mistake. This incident isn't even on the radar compared to some of the other orgs we've dealt with. We've ejected a few over the years that came with good reviews;however, pirated our community.
