As for warmers, I say if you have them, use them, regardless if they are required. Just one less thing to worry about, and you can go straight out and hammer down instead of taking a couple laps to get up to speed, that time adds up over the course of a day.

For PP3 vs Q3, I can't tell you, I've run Q2 and PP2 and thought both worked well.

The two days I was on Q2's was 105 degree days at Vegas motor sports park riding at YCRS and the tires far exceeded my expectations, even in the heat. I was riding almost as hard as I did on my bike setup on Pirelli race tires and I only had two small issues with them (little greasy after 15 minutes of straight riding, ok after a little break), and the front almost tucked once when I pushed it deep into a corner on the brakes (the tires were so good I forgot I wasn't on my regular tires and didn't recognize its warning). All in all they performed great, and for the price are a great value.

It's been a while since I've run the PP2's but I never had any issues.

I also ran Bridgestone BT-016's (stock tires on my street bike), ran them at road America after blowing the motor on my regular track bike... They also worked really well for what they are, but they did complain more under hard throttle and howled enough under braking to make me nervous.

Btw, even my race tires (Pirelli DOTs) get greasy after about 20 minutes of straight riding, not an issue at trackdays, but in longer races it becomes noticeable.

I dont think you can go wrong with a set of Power Cups. Use your warmers as eE Jeremy said you can go out and gun it!
Make sure ur suspension is set right since that will play a big roll on how the bike feels. Look at your tires after each turn to see were your at suspension wise as well as tire pressure. There is a ton of youtubes out there on tire reading. Its pretty interesting stuff...to me anyways:woot:

Im sure we see us out there one day. I will be back at Grattan 07/20-21.

suspension is sprung and set to my weight/body position by MCRAs tech guy an it has no track days on it and maybe 50 street miles so its good to go

    Your most likely right.
But there is a chance it needs some adjustment. Just make sure your tires look good!

    Have fun out there!

well compared to the stock forks on the r6s(upside down from how most forks are) i tore my power pures UP .. 2 track days and they were tearing up quite a bit with stock suspension not altered just how it was set from factory .. then i bought 07 r6r forks and got racetech springs to my weight so did a fork conversion and now my tire wear is great .. especially with it set .. im sure it can be better but the tech and i have done some tweaking and the wear on my pp3's are oranges compared to the pures w/ stock suspension's apples ... and if i go to power cups(michelin obvi.) then i imagine the wear will be faster(since its race tire) but similar compared when put in prespective of tire life of the pp3(street) and power cup(race) since both are michelin

    or am i dead wrong?

I honestly think it is too soon to say whether the Q3 is superior to the PP3, but like I stated before the Dunlops and Stones for me felt more planted than the PP's that I have ran in the past. Granted the PP's never gave in a corner when pushed but they did have the feeling that the front was at the limit. I know they were not because many guys ride faster than me with them, but I tend to brake pretty deep in corners and the PP's always seems to feel a bit loose. I do know that Michelins are pretty picky about pressures in my experience.

GOOD LUCK wish I was going with you :)

Run the new Power Super Sport and be done with this conversation. You can run 90% of the race tire pace all day long. They also do not require warmers. There is no reason to mount a race tire at a novice/intermediate pace. There are way to many great hypersport tires that are more than capable even into advanced. Power Cups shouldnt even be in this conversation, but thats my opinion.

As for your experience with Dave, talk to him again. Maybe a bad first impression... I am not sure. Dave is a great rider/coach and he is willing to help eveyone.

Good luck, I will be coaching at Grattan July 5-7. If you are there, feel free to come find me and I will ride with you.

I am a huge fan of the Q2. MOST Race tires require heat (and warmers) to get them up to a good temp before they perform their best. The Q2 heats up quickly (2 laps) and then hangs plenty good enough until you are running Mid to upper A group. Code's school runs Q2's on all their bikes (and Disalvo Speed Academy does also?) not sure what better recommendation you need. Even liked them better when you could buy them for $200/set (not right now). I use warmers anyway for peace of mind.

I'm sticking with my trusty Q2's unless I get a bump in to advanced. Love them and will probably get some warmers later down the line but I'm happy with my paces and don't care to go 100% on the first lap.

One more vote for Q2s (or Q3s). They are fantastic tires for the money, and I've run them harder than I ever thought I could. This is a video from a couple of years ago. I'm not setting the world on fire here, but I am playing hard with lots of people on Q2s and an 04 R6...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B716xozYZg4

But don't run hard on them when they are cold. Watch your PSI carefully and drop a pound or even 2 if you suspect you will have trouble warming them (cold day, cold track, 1st session morning pace, etc.) Treat them like MotoGP Bridgestones - dangerous when cold. Use warmers if possible. Every time they've let me down, its been on a cold track, cold day. Both times, front end, no warning.

    Did I mention cold?

Eric can only give you a base line, it is never truly ready to go since different tracks and different roads will require different settings as will changing tire brands and so forth. For an example I had him set my bike when I had metzeler Z8's and when I switched back to Dunlops I had to back all the settings off to what I had prior to get good feedback from the bike when pushed.

You can't buy Q3's yet, as of last week nobody had any front's in stock yet...not even STG.

I just checked STG last night and they are showing the 120/70 available and the 190/50 & 190/55 available. Granted available does not mean in stock :)
