thanks again to all. emily is pushing pills down my throat at an alarming rate. worst pain of all today, mostly in clavicular area. we're going to get another opinion on surgery. it doesn't seem right to let a multiple fracture heal on its own. it could have negative effect on my wifebeater® modeling career....
Sometimes it takes a while for the worst pain to get here but then things start to get better. Definitely get another opinion on the clavicle. Been there done that, took 9 months before a Dr finally figured out I needed surgery. Heal up and now that it will get better, it just takes time and patience.
update I'm totally off the pain meds for about 2 weeks now. while they were ABSOLUTELY necessary for some time, they have dire side effects and are, ultimately, no fun. now it's just ibuprofen and very occasional muscle relaxers. I went to the neurosurgeon today for neck check. they took regular xrays (not CT scans). doc said things look normal. I can now wear a soft neck brace when moving around and nothing at all when in bed, but I'll probably keep it on for some time while sleeping. I imagine I'll feel unsafe without it; I have had it off, literally, for fewer than 10 minutes in the last month. unexpected movements (like when the cats knock something over and I jerk my head) are a not too subtle reminder of how far I have yet to go. my clavicle hurts a good bit; I can almost raise my arm all the way to vertical, but there is, overall, no power around my shoulder region and certain movements are simply not doable. my neck muscles (especially deep down) and related soft tissues hurt like hell daily. basically, I haven't moved my head much at all for a month. I know some good therapists, but this is some to-the-bone trauma and will take some focused, long-term bodywork to release. when I consider how much energy went into my body in 5 seconds and realize how long it's going to take to let it back out safely, I am at once humbled and amazed. I have walked the neighborhood and can do a good bit of normal stuff now, but I have little stamina. I've lost 20 lbs, some in tears, most in muscle since I don't "do" much but read and fool around on computer. still no driving or massage work allowed. here's one of the bike: it came out better than I did. I'll put it back together over the winter and ride first event in 2014. maybe in novice. most important to me and Emily is how much support we have received during our association with STT and its members. you all must know that I'm not only speaking of support related to this particular situation, but from day 1 and consistently. you can all be proud. people say true altruism does not exist. maybe not, but if you're looking for it, save some time and start with the members of STT. good job guys. see you in a few weeks.
I feel your pain, literally. Just had surgery Monday. I broke my clavicle for the second time. The first time was in three pieces and the surgery was much more painful than the injury. This time, surgery went much smoother. If you do have surgery, try to get an experienced surgeon. I mean experienced with the clavicle, not just surgery. Wish you the best, take care.
John...... I'm glad we're gonna see you back... your positive attitude is inspiring. We've rode a bunch in the past - whenever you do jump back on the horse, come find me.... I don't give a shit if we're going 20mph..... it'll be good times. See you guys in a few weeks. t
Great news John!! Take your time and get yourself healed up. Can't wait to see you back with us at the track!
That's good news from the doctor. Not yet time to go start wrenching on your bike yet. Come on out in 3 weeks and be Emily's Umbrella boy See ya then!
my most recent stunt... some of you know I cut my hand badly the day after I was released to work (after the wreck in Aug). I consulted with a specialist and, during surgery, he confirmed what I had guessed: I nicked a branch of the median nerve rendering ring and middle fingers numb. before going in, we had decided to use a cadaver's nerve to resect the (possibly) severed nerve. since it was only nicked (and not severed) he didn't use the cadaver part, but sutured the nerve back together. He told me that I also opened an artery and was super lucky it stopped bleeding so quickly. anyway, I'm on the mend (and even typing!). I thought it prudent to share these gnarly photos. BTW: they used a pneumatic tourniquet on upper arm to stop blood flow to hand during 1.5 hour procedure. scary and cool. 2nd pic: the small black dots near center of photo are sutures to the nerve.
Damn John... Quit hurting yourself:crutch: Amazing what they can do these days. Hope to see you at the track in the spring:thumb:
Heal up well and try to be more careful. A little heads up on the graphic nature of the pics before they scroll on screen:<) kinda caught me off guard. Cool pics, just not expecting something quite like that. Matt
Ahhh!!! Warnings for sure needed hahahahaha not that it bothers me any! We could make this a thread for gruesome photos It's in line with the injury to my leg - severe road rash that went deep and required 3 debridements. I'm still healing from the incident that occurred on October 5th. I'm a month out and I can easily project another 2 months of healing, maybe more. I'm glad you're on the road to recovery John - can't wait to see you and Emily both out there next season.
Dude I dont know you but I get the impression ur one hell of a dare devil! I hope it all heals up and ur just as new for the 2014 season!
