Is it improper etiquette to post a thread that I would take any track or race track off this weekend? Im still new to this stuff and I dont want to upset the order of things.
Is it ok to ask for used track and race tires or put a sign up that I am willing to take them off their hands. I didnt know if that was something the tire service onsite did so I wouldnt want to step on anyones toes accidently.
the big building by the straight open for viewing? i know alot can be seen from it but want to know if its open to spectators?
Yes thats where they hold the classes and my friends ususally stand on the top tier watch or shoot video.
Does anybody have tips on making the drive from the northern end of the country? Looking like a 15 hour drive. Can I realistically plan to do this all Friday, and make it by 9PM(central)? I guess that would mean leaving S.E Michigan latest 5 am. Any cool stops you guys suggest on the way? Or just keep my eyes on the prize, and push through to Barber?
Eyes on the Prize............ All of the Michiganlanders do it in one jaunt however they are always nappin in the Lot Friday before the gates open...
Chris, we're leaving from SE MI and it usually only takes us around 12 hours if we drive straight thru, even cruising around 65mph. We're leaving Thursday evening and will probably stop for a few hours rest somewhere along the way. I'd just drive straight thru and stop as necessary for food and fuel, if you can. Get to the track and get your pit setup so you don't have to be in a rush come Saturday morning.
If you come down I75 to Chattanooga and across I59 you have the Lost Sea and Rock City. There is also a canyon on top of a mountain at Ft Payne that is not far off the interstate though you have to pull up a decent hill to get up there. If you come down I75 across I71 then down I65 you have the vette museum and all the caves in the cave region (you might need a reservation for Mammoth) Huntsville has the Space and Rocket Center (about 20 miles off of I65) Also there is a variety of stuff in Nashville.
I would assume the Vette museum to be closed since they are still retrieving cars out of the sinkhole in the middle of the museum....
All good to go with the exception of the Skydome portion where the sinkhole occurred. It is a separate structure from the rest of the museum. All other portions open and they now have a viewing area and video monitor where you see the sinkhole and recovery effort from the museum tour.
Good call! I'm going to try and see if I can make a Thursday night trip after work. Would put my mind much more at ease. @sheepofblue I would love to check out the Space and Rocket center, that's totally right up my alley. Thanks for the suggestions :thumb:
A quick reminder to all to start hydrating now. 1-2 liters of water per day (more like 2-3 once the action starts) through the end of the Barber weekend. Avoid the energy drinks altogether and go easy on the sports drinks like Gatorade and such. Water is your friend. Get plenty of rest starting now, too.
