Seems like all good advice! I'll see everyone this weekend. :)

I talked yesterday with the track. They have 93 (15% ethanol) and leaded "et100". Then I called supplier, Key Oil who "thinks" it is Marathon fuel. He had no specs on the et100.

Today was a blast. I ended up skipping the last session due to being so exhausted from the heat.

I dropped 6 seconds today off my personal best today! :)

Getting a 2:09 would be awesome but I doubt I'll be able to do it.

Had a blast! Thank you STT for another great event!

BTW was there a problem with the beacon today? I only got lap times in one session only (5)

Here's some video from today. The first two laps are 2:09s and the last 10 seconds or so of the video you see me almost highlife coming onto the front straight. Apparently full throttle in second gear at full lean over the bump into the front straight doesn't hold well with Q3s. I spun up the rear tire and almost got thrown off.

There are a couple of videos on YouTube doing 2:00s and 1:59s. You might find them useful. Looks like you made good progress, Josh!

And some have done 55's as well.... With that said this is one track where I could care less about times... Its all about the fun and flow.... If its a battle between this track and your times it will catch up to you....

Josh, I followed you that entire video, and bumped you to A because:

    1. You had the speed/time.
    2. Your lines were clean, consistent and you didn't run off.
    3. You overcame the highside WELL (I saw the whole thing about 20 ft behind you and was already in avoidance mode), shook it off and kept riding. That was impressive. I would have crapped my leathers...
    4. Most importantly, when confronted with people that you needed to pass, you didn't get stupid and force it, you were patient and waited for the right time to make the CLEAN pass. That's what it takes and was the #1 reason for the bump recommendation...

It was impressive on Q3's (but that's about all they have so I'd recommend GPA Pros or Slicks). I will offer you the following advice:

    1) You still have a little body position issues to work on; you seem better at left handers than right handers as far as getting off the bike. Getting a little further off the bike will help you keep the bike more upright coming out of those corners - you have it leaned pretty far..

    2) Be careful about getting jiggy with the throttle on those exits - highsides HURT. The fact that you were on a 600 helped control having too much torque to spin up the rear except that one time - a literbike would have been an entirely different issue and you have to ROLL on the thottle carefully.

    3) While you can use a laptimer to see your improvement, it's time to stop CHASING IT. Yes, you got your 7 seconds, but the next ones will be much more difficult to attain, and your risk factor gets higher on an exponential basis..

    4) Riders on literbikes are going to pass you in A (on both sides, and closer than 6 Ft)...ride a predictable line, be paitent, and gain some experience that a rider with so little time on the (motorcycle) track as you does not have yet...As an ER nurse, you know what a bad motorcycle accident looks like - don't be THAT GUY.

Lastly, CONGRATS, GOOD LUCK, and don't make me regret your bump!

Great advice....Keith knows what he is talking about...

The faster you go the quicker mistakes will bite you. Things in the advanced group happen quicker. Ride at your pace...I have seen many of rider wreck in their first day in advanced because they ride at/outside or their comfort zone/skill level. Most importantly have fun and improve your skill and become a safer/faster rider. Congrads on the bump to A group.

As Keith said, work on that body position, just watching the reflection of your helmet in the instrument cluster I could tell you were not getting your head off enough. If you had been dropping your head and upper body off the bike properly it is likely you would not have had that spin up.

I saw a lot of good things in the video, please don't think I'm trying to run you down, we are just all trying to share with your our experience in dealing with a ton of riders. If you will listen you will have a good time, learn a lot and become smoother and faster. We have seen it time and time again with people who don't listen and end up out of the sport.

Thanks Kieth! I had alot of fun out there this weekend! I appreciate the tips and riding a session with you. I'll look into GPA Pros. I need to research if they need warmers, if so I'll have to pick some up. I agree with chasing laptimes, I probably wont even bring it with me for my first day in A. I rather focus on being smooth, working on body position and getting comfortable with riding with the A guys.

This weekend wore me out! I used to workout alot and be decently sized but due to life I haven't had the time to dedicate to going 4-5 days a week. I quit all together about a year ago and shrunk back down to my little 160 lbs self. Out there riding at a medium pace isn't to tiring but out there riding at 90-95% wore me out and reminds me of how out of shape I've gotten. My clutch hand was super sore. Between that and the heat I only rode the first 4 sessions on sunday. For the august event I may only do Saturday and just plan to be back in shape next season. Thanks for everything Kieth! I'll see you around man!

Thanks for the input Dave! Body position is going to be my main goal next event. I think getting that in check will continue to allow me to grow. I'm always open to tips and suggestions! My end goal is to be fast enough to start racing and be able to win. It's going to take alot of great coaches to get there but hopefully it's achievable. Looking at results from the last "race" I saw at NCM my current laptimes could win intermediate. Give me race tires over my current Q3s some bike prep (I'm on basically on a stock bike) and some more seat time/coaching and maybe I'll figure this sport out. :)

Thanks for the advice Andrew! I'll focus on me and not trying to chase around guys in A. That wouldn't turn out well for me or my bike. I'm excited to ride in A. Slightly nervous to be "the off pace guy" but it will be great for learning and a humbling experience. :lmao:

Pretty much anything after Q3's will require warmers.

excuse me for asking, but on his second trackday he got bumped to A? If that's the case I worry for him at his next day.

I can understand your worry... but also understand that people progress at different rates. I have coached 1000's of riders and seen this time and time again.....

Now.... if Keith bumped him prematurely..... he's fired. :D
