Singed up for the pro school in May, was wondering what I can look forward to and if anybody else is attending.
You can look forward to LOT of track time. It is back-to-back 30 minute sessions all day. I did the August date last year, had a great time. No racing yet for me, but I think some of us here at STT are thinking of the senior group at Grattan. I was thinking of the May date as well. Just to see what next to improve.
I was planning on racing that Sat and Sunday but I might be to sore if they are going 30min sessions back to back. I reckon I should start getting my legs in shape. I will run the the over 40 class if nothing else though.
Im going to sign up for that as well. I kinda have the race in mind too. Will see. I cant do the over 40 class yet.
please dont stone me for asking this question but what is pro school, how much and where is this offered? Is it like JDSA? Thanks
The STT Pro School is a school within a typical STT LED format Track Day. There is usually 1 on 1 instruction for students, justifying the additional cost over a typical track day. PRO school dates are typically a Friday before a WERA round at the same track. Intermediate riders can attend a PRO school date to improve with their eyes toward a bump to A. Advanced students can attend a PRO school date to earn a provisional racing license for the following weekend. Sorry, no video at Pro School. As said earlier, expect LOTS of track time. Make sure your fitness is good. Fatigue will become a factor and get in the way of your learning! -Tom
Can an "I" rider take the school for the purpose of earning one weekend towards a provisional novice license?
I shot STT a message last week asking about Pro School as an "I" rider. Basically, you will be paying (a somewhat nominal fee) for one on one coaching. To me, it will be worth the extra cash to start off the season with the intense coaching. Also, my first ever trackday was last year at Grattan running CCW, so I'm really curious to see how I have progressed as a rider.
So with me being an Intermediate, you are saying I wont be able to be qualified to get a WERA license after taking this class?
According to the WERA site, this PRO school counts as one weekend, of the two you need, towards your prov novice license. You can show up at a WERA race the next week and that would be your two weeks of prov novice, then you have your Novice licenseā¦.as long as you don't go off track too bad.
If your coach thinks you can race you will get a paper to give to the girls at WERA's registration and buy a WERA license (Saturday). Make sure you let the coach know you intend to get a race license. The Pro school takes care of the required "race school" to get a WERA race license. After 2 successful race weekends (no crashing) you are moved from provisional novice to novice status.
Raz and Rick, thanks for the info. I must have read only what I wanted to instead of actually reading what was there. I still would like to race. I have even talked to Evelyn already and have a provisional # set aside for that weekend. My enthusiasm has got the better of me.
You should go for it, Grattan is a great track to race on. Just curious, what bike or class would you be racing in?
It's not a big deal, you will be fine. Just have to wear a orange t-shirt over your leathers until you're provisional novice period is over The girls in registration will hook you up if you need help with paperwork. The Saturday solo 20 race will be a good start. PIRC (beaver run) will be the next race on the NC schedule then Mid O... Team Chicago does a race school at Grattan the first week of April as well. It's cheap and cold most of the time
Raz, I would be running Css, Csb and the what ever class for those over 40. I raced ccs south region in the 90's. Roebling and Jennings as an amature, never finished higher then mid pack and dont forsee running up front now. I just like being on track in race conditions.
