What he said :rawk: Turn 4 is 1 of only 2 lefts and is off camber, very green in the morning. The track is mainly flat, Stay to the inside of the front straight and you can catch a slight down hill, perfect for a good power wheelie past the grid marshall. Don't worry they love it :thumb:
J- They have not at any of the MCRA and Moto Series race and track days. Nor at any of the Ducati Indy events... I would assume they wouldn't for STT, either, but it could be policy for STT...
Last I knew it was a track rule based on a fatality years ago. I understand it is under new management and that rule may have been eliminated. It made for some HOT days on the grid.
They seem to have gotten a little more relaxed on it, depends on the crash though. Ppl like to throw it down in 7 a lot.
Ain't that the truth. I'll be the odd man out here and just say it: I fuckin' hate Putnam. Almost rather not even ride.
The worst part of putnam is the gate process every morning. Because they can't allow camping it is a nightmare every morning getting in. The track itself is a lot of fun and I compare it to Grattan in its flow. Nowhere near the elevation change though.
Again, I realize my opinion is not commonly shared and is not necessarily coming from a place of experience compared to many (I only have five tracks under my belt), but it might be that much more important for the O.P. because most other opinions are pretty similar to one another. Getting through the gate in the morning and getting setup in time for Rider's Meeting is a nightmare. It's a mad scramble to get everything done which always leaves me feeling like I'm forgetting something. It's a boring track IMO. Almost no elevation change and only ten turns. You're all gonna think I'm nuts but with the new complex at Gingerman I actually like GMan much, much better. However, Putnam is a decent track to spectate at so I enjoy a street ride there to watch the cars and sometimes even bikes. Meh.
Love the track, the starter is another story. In Novice and Int. groups he will send the whole group out in 1/3 of the track. Everyone will be bunched up. Best to come in and then wait on your own for open track. The track layout and pavement is good, watch out for the last turn, barrier is close. There is nothing close to the track, food, fuel etc. Lunch at the track is good.
Get into the 13's/14's that track gets REALLY fun.. The gate is a pain on Saturday but Sunday isn't an issue esp with the garages. The garages take away a lot of setup time.
I am lazy and don't want to have to batten down the hatches and move the motorhome so it would be nice to be able to stay over.
