To the guy on the 1100 Multistrada, I saw you run off at Canada corner late in the day. I hope you came out of that reasonably well. The session wasn't red flagged, so I guess it wasn't too bad.

I was dicing with you a bit in one of the early sessions as it was a bit damp and I was warming up myself and the Power Race tires. I hope I wasn't holding you up in the corners too badly. I was on the blue R1 and I think we passed each other I think 3 or 4 times in those first couple of laps. After that I put my head down and never saw you again, as one would expect with the HP and areo advantage that I had.

Anyone know what decent lap times are at RA? I ran mostly 2:35's in A group and some guys still buzzed by.. :(

2:35's are decent, not bad at all.Go CCS/ASRA racing with Geoff May......did a 2:14 on Sunday...stuffed me like a Turkey.Jason Farrell was doing 20's on a 600,Dan Ortega and Ricardo Valdez were in the 23's on 600.Now,that's racing, for a track day you're doing fine...you were probably passing the majority of the group.I was doing 28's on Thursday there and got smoked a couple times.....always soemone faster, always someone slower.Weather hold up today up there?

Wow, that does put it in perspective. Well for the first time at RA I really like the track, I had another prior but it was all rain, not much fun and hard to learn much about going faster when you're in survival mode all the time. I know there are a lot of places for me to improve thats for sure. I guess i'll be working on that next time. Im not there today but 2 hrs north is hot and sticky so im sure they arent too much different. I always started out just after the main pack let the hotpit so i could pretty much be by myself and learn the track, after a few sessions i started pitting up behind everyone and learned to get involved and be comfortable in traffic, was fun either way.

i agree...2:35 is really good trackday pace. that was about what k3 and i were doing (i was on my '05 r6) when i was learning the lines there last stt day. don't remember getting passed by anyone...pretty much buzz passing everyone else.

i'd say that's top of A group. club racing, i'd expect you'd have to be under 2:30....and pro's are probably all under 2:20. this is all 600 times i'm talking....though i wouldn't add much more for 1000...iirc i ran 2:28 on my r1 first time i went there...only had about 4 dry laps at the very end of the day.

contrary to popular opinion...road america is not all about horsepower...it's more about brakes and corner entry speed. that's my opinion anyway.

    2:35's

I would second that comment. 2:35's are good track day pace. I was running mid 2:30's all day as well on an '08 R6 (bike #120). With a few more dry sessions I was hoping to break into the upper 2:2X's but day was cut a bit short. Still a good time. Much better than when I was there is April (cold and wet, bad combination).

Yeah for sure, believe it or not,it's the breaks that are the key to speed there,if that makes any sense at all. You've got some really hard areas, like T-5,and 12,but suttle trail braking, setting geometry, for the entry AND exit is key.The other thing frankly is gear selection which can take some time to find the right combo up there.

Thats great feedback. My track bike is a 1000, not my first choice i guess but its fun just to be out there.. The best thing about it is i know i can improve quite a bit on corner entry. dbodden1019 were you there on monday? I was on an orange/black GSXR and only was passed a few times that day and i think i remember seeing a blue R6 tail pass by and get hung up in traffic.

Ps- Duh i see your avatar picture now.. :D Since we are on the subject of lap times whats decent times for blackhawk?

Well, let's start with the record by Jensen 1:08.9,Farrell,Ortega,Brian hall, and a host of others will do consitant 9's and 10's....eeeek! My best up there are upper 13's,but usually 14's 15's......just ok,Track day pace 20's down I would say would be "A" group pace.

for reference i shot photos there and hopped on the bike for a couple sessions to learn the track and was doing 1'17s again on an '05 r6

instead of asking people what good times are and getting a million answers...you should just figure out what percentage you are over lap record. i'm very good at guessing lap times at tracks i've never been to simply because i know i'll be around 3-7% slower than the lap record on my r6 on club tracks, and 12-15% above lap record on pro tracks (where pro's have run ama races). i then add about 3-5 seconds of slowness if it's a trackday vs a race.

once you figure that out...you'll be able to know all the different levels also. you'll also know tracks you're faster or slower at...other people too.

I would also like to know if there was a photographer at the track yesterday. I had no camera and would like some pictures. The day was great! Sunny pretty much all day with no rain. Was my first trackday in the sun. 2nd track day overall. Mouse was my coach and I learned ALOT. Great guy to work with. Kept a great pace and we kept getting faster. Will see you all next year.

Damn... I have only been there a few times, but I ran a 2:53 on coaching intermediate on an SV650. I wasn't pushing hard and I was on pilot powers... I can see finding 15-20 seconds at a race pace with race tires, but don't think I am gonna find 40+ seconds anywhere :)

My parents came to see what this trackday thing was all about.. Ma says you're all crazy, said she walked up to the front straight and almost fell over as a group whizzed past her.

if you're talking road america...that's actually clipping along pretty good on an sv. damn good, i'd think.

if that's blackhawk....well....maybe you need one of those orange triangles for your back.

She would have loved watching the GP bikes on Sunday then...several of the riders had scuff marks on their elbows from rubbing the wall at 130mph. Radar showed a 4 mph increase running the wall vs running mid-track! Tdub

@Chad - I ran right around that pace on a slightly down on power sv sat and sun - was good enough for a 3rd Sat in ultralight, don't knock it. One of the guys I was dicing with had a vaypor on the bike...we were hitting 132 mph on a sv going into turn 5 on sunday with that tail wind...that was a ride lol...not to mention finally growing the stones to hold it open in 5th gear thru turn 1 and the carosel woohoo...now if I could just get 5 and 6 right...sigh

oh and jig...I slide the rear once.....

(second half of the bend...back end disliked the romping on the throttle and nearly highsided me to the moon lol)
