So for the taping, do I need to tape absolutely every light even if all fuzes are pulled? Never really understood taping up plastic housings and flush mounted turn signals. Other question is what is the limit on tire wear? I am running Novice on friday and just mounted new rubber because I was down to 40% on the tires I just took off.
My rear brake lever works perfectly, but is *slightly* bent in and some(maybe 10-20%) of the end is missing due to a lowside. do i need a new rearset to pass tech? also, just curious, why no helmet mounted gopros? are they more prone to fall off of helmets than bikes?
My experience has been, I'd change it. When they notice that, which they will, they will be extra cautious looking at your bike knowing that it went down and could have done more damage. Its for your safety along with every one else's. The go pros cant be mounted to a helmet so when your riding you are concentrating on riding instead of trying to make a video, turning your head to see other action on the track. That's my best guess.
No, you do not need a new rear set or lever. So long as it is 100% functional, not loose or causing interference in any operation of the bike. There are many bikes that come through tech with levers and pegs that are slightly ground down due to mishaps. We understand that it happens and we'll look over the bike cautiously to see if there is any additional damage as mentioned, but as long as it is functional and safety is not compromised it does not need to be replaced. As far as go-pros/other cameras on the helmet, they are not allowed since we're just relying on the sticky mount to keep it on the helmet. An object of that size that comes off you or the bike in front of you can do a significant amount of damage when it makes impact with another bike or person. Go-pro's and similar cameras can be mounted on the bike, but MUST be tethered/safety wired to hard point on the bike.
Another nOOb question. My bike isn't a dedicated track bike...is there some pics here or on the main site that show what proper taping of lights, wheel weights, etc. entails?
There are a few youtube videos, search for track day prep. Use painters tape on the headlight lens only, blinker lens and taillight and the wheel weights and pull off license plate, if you are OCD you can trim to make it look good. And pull the fuse for these items as well.
Since my coaching bike is still about 80% street legal, I am the king of tape (and get a lot of teasing)..let me give you some hints: - All glass must be covered so if you crash it stays together and is easier to pick up, and the tape needs to stay on. I use painters tape, then back up portions with duct tape. - Use different color duct tape than the color of the wheels - makes it easier for us to spot the tape at tech. Painters tape not strong enough - Anything viewed from the rear (i.e. brakelight) must not be able to be seen by the rider behind you. Either tape up enough, or disconnect. - Tape up any and all reflectors, mirrors, etc. - Bring a roll of duct tape with you to tech, that way we can fix on the spot rather than sending you away to correct. I'm not worried about trimming it up to make it look cool, I also use tape to protect from rock/debris chips...here's a front/back pick (note the tape on the wheels and how easy it is to spot also.. PS: I also tape my tank - a reminder to lay my arm on it when turning, AND so I don't scratch it with my leathers
