It'll become an issue when you go faster and need to grab shifts leaned over, try to get "un-awkward" about it

I'm wondering if he misinterpreted Nick's comment in the riders meeting about how the only reason to ever stop on the track is to avoid hitting someone and didn't realize you should then keep moving afterwards. Who knows, but hopefully someone clued him in so he could learn from it.

I forgot to ask, any idea how much distance your bike got in that slide? Looked like a long one! Glad you're mostly alright though, that looked nasty.

Yes I had the time to make that corner, but when I heard tires squealing I did panic a little bit, so I decided to get off the brakes and keep my bike straight going into the grass. Not sure which tire was squeling, but it looks like one of the tires has locked for a sec. It can be seen when you look closely at the speedometer. I usually don't use rear brakes, but I would probably end up flying over the steering wheel if I didn't use it at this time.

Actually... the bike probably slid about 50 feet or so. I think by the time I stopped sliding I was half way down the straight near the trees on the left. I actually made it further than the bike!

Got lucky with it though, some rash and just a frame slider, foot peg, and handle bar to replace. I ended up worse than the bike...

That is a pretty high entry speed corner. Glad you kept it shiny side up!!

But I will echo what's been said, you target fixated and totally could have made that turn.

You could have made that turn no problem..Look where you want to go... You were looking off track and thats where you went... you didnt even try to turn..Also Do everyone a favor.... Dont enter back on the track like that again... Take 2 feet max... clean tires ect...And gradually blend in. If you had pebbles ect they would have been all over the place.. however the big concern here is the guy you pulled right in front of in the center of the track.....

I was gonna say, you must be good at bowling. Turns out your bike is the skilled one!

I'm not quite sure what the recovery with a ripped tendon in your finger is likely, but I'll be hoping for you to bounce back as quick as your bike and be out there again soon!

Thanks, me too. Finger is healing well but I'm still feeling a bit dazed from the concussion a bit. Safe to say I will be done for the rest of this season though. Definitely had a great time and wish I didn't have to cut out so early. Always a great labor day weekend with STT!

Entry on track the second time was much better..... Sometimes you need to go slow to go faster...

WOW dude totally unacceptable how you entered onto the track after the first run-off:fear::crutch:. As Mark pointed out much better the second time.:thumb:

You definitely locked up the rear tire just watch the tach drop from 10000rpm to 4000rpm and then jump back up to about 7000rpm when you release the brake.

For your safety and everyone else's I'd suggest you spend some more time with the coaches. I've watched a couple of you vids and can't imagine you making too many more trackdays without crashing.
Oh and buy some fiberglass bodywork for that thing, it will save you some money when you crash.

    Be safe.

Anyone in I group happen to have footage of a black SV with the number 979 on yellow plates and plenty of 'go-fast' stickers? :) I was there all three days.

Saturday I got yelled at for making a few sketchy passes, and if anyone would happen to have footage that'd help me a lot. Guess I wasn't giving folks the room I thought I was!

I need to pick through a lot of video, trim off the fat/boring bits, and maybe even just make a little compilation of each course. I'll post it all here eventually.

I saw a lot of SVs out there this weekend! A copper SV, one with a yellow tail, a blue one with the taillights still on it, and another I think that was all black. I think on south course of full there was one session when four SVs were all traveling in a pack, leap-frogging all the 600s and litre bikes. Made me smile. :)

Yes I could make that turn, but like I said before I decided to not risk it and do not take this turn :)
The guy who I pulled in front was my buddy and he was waving to me earlier to get in. Can't see it on the video tho.

Didn't want to "risk" staying on the pavement? So you choose the grass as your safe route?

    Couple things:
    1. Don't ride over your abilities, there is zero reason to run off the track except for mechanical problems.
    2. Always try to make the corner vs standing the bike up and running off.
    3. Start trail braking so you can scrub off speed as you turn and buy yourself more pavement to correct a mistake
    4. Running off the track twice in one day is ridiculous, calm down before you hurt somebody

Seems to me like you weren't comfortable braking into tight corners at high speeds yet. You have a 1K so the speed/pwr will have you at that corner very quickly. I would suggest work on your smoothness and braking (entry speeds, trail braking etc.) until you become comfortable with it. The bike has the ability to make that corner no doubt, its the rider who has to build the capability to do it.

I've blown that corner before too; I think most of us have at one point. When I did I slowed to a comfortable pace, dropped my head and attempted to make the corner.. guess what? it worked and I made the corner.

The next time around I set an earlier point/marker for braking and worked on that corner entry/exit until I felt comfortable enough to push the braking markers back and back. Now it's one of my favorite turns on track and I make up some good ground on folks there :)

Would you still try to lean the bike when you heard squeling tires?
Squeling tires is the only one reason why I didn't want to take that corner

I would... You had too much rear brake pressure, if you know what's going on you should be able to adjust (remove the pressure slowly from the rear brake or maybe use the clutch) for that.

My bike has no slipper so there are times (few tiimes :) ) when I lock up the rear on down shifts and the rear tire locks and moves around a bit at the back; I try to use the clutch (release it smoothly to minimize the situation). But I am always looking towards the corner entry, apex and commit to the turn. Your speed had slowed down enough that you had plenty of time to make that turn, you fixated on the grassy exit

Again man, we've ALL done exactly what you did at one point or another. Everyone on here is simply commenting to help you improve and think about things, as well as to advise you to slow down to go fast..
