My boyfriend and I will be there. We'll be driving a black Ford Ranger with a U Haul trailer. My bike is an 08 red/balck CBR600 and his is an 07 Buell Lightning. It'll be our first time EVER at a track with our bikes. So it'd be really appreciated if people stopped by to say good morning or introduce yourselves! We're both likely to be really nervous and could use a little friendliness to get comfortable.
Besides Rosenau here are a few more possablities. I have never used any of these so I can not recomend one over another. I would call ahead to make sure they can do want you need and when. CCW would be ok but imagine how much fun it would be to hang a 90 on the straight, open the gate, go over the service road, through the next gate, slam a 90 and hit the whoop section, around the mx track, across the service road, and 90 back onto the road course. It would only be like the best motorcycle track day ever. What a cool backyard that would be too... Anybody doing the "double-header" and also ride the Great Lakes MX series race on the same weekend at Grattan? It would be a lot easier to do if there was a tunnel or shared pits. That is the part that has me scratching my head a bit on logistics. I'm going to bring all my junk and see if its possible. I think it would be a pretty funny helmet cam vid to run practice on the MX track with the supermoto, cross the track, and get in line to go out for a 20 minute session on the big track. Anyway, I'm bringing knobbies on the 250, grooved slicks on the 450, and slicks on the 750 and we should be able to ride nearly continuously... or until I can't breathe anymore, stand on the pegs, or twist the throttle.
Welcome to the both of you. Get ready to have a new "addiction". Are you planning on attending both days? Dont worry about NOT meeting people, worry about remembering everyones name. I dont ever recall meeting an unfriendly person at the track.
I'm in for the 31st. I sold the zx6r so now I have no choice except to focus on the "new to me" sv1000.
I'm heading up to this, needed to hit Grattan at least once this year. Black and white R6 with a red Eagle Talon for a tow vehicle.
FYI- I ended up getting my track tires mounted at: C&C Sports 8090 Grand River Ave Brighton, MI 48114-9341 877-884-9569 or 810-227-7068 http://www.ccsport.com/ They charged $54.50 ($50 + $4.50 for weights) to mount/balance the tires on the empty rims. They said it would be $70 (plus I assume the weights) for dismount/mount/balance. Earlier in the week, I rode out to Nicholson's in Ann Arbor and they wanted $90 (they didn't seem to care that the wheels didn't have tires on them). I was pretty happy with the service person and the mechanic at C&C Sports. I had been told that the Michelin Power race tires were pre-balanced and that you should be able to have the wheels balanced and then be able to install the tires. This seemed odd to me, so I asked them to try it (and they did it even though it ended up being more work for them). So they balanced the rear wheel, then mounted the tire and put it back on the balance machine but it was out of balance and required more weights. They remove the previous weights and did a re-balance with the installed tire to avoid adding extra weights. Anyone else heard about tires supposedly being pre-balanced during manufacturing? Now I need to figure out how to remove/install tires on a bike this weekend, plus lube up the chain since I haven't done that yet. (Feel free to offer any advice). Matthew.
We'll see. The guy I bought it from exagerated quite a bit about what had been done to the suspension. Also the more I looked at the bike the more it appears to have been neglected as far as maintenance, definately not up to my standards. I did a few laps with it earlier this month but the rear was soft and it would not turn and I did not know where the heck I was as far as the gearing. So I had to do a complete rebuild of the suspension and go through pretty much the entire bike. It has some ugly gsxr fairings on it and I ordered some sv fairings from Rockwell Honda but they've been dicking around and took 7 days to start shipping them so if I even get them in time they probably won't be painted. But I'm going to give it a fair try!
Looks like I'm heading up to Grattan this weekend, anybody know if we can get into the track Friday night? I don't really want to leave at the crack of dawn to make it up there saturday morning.
In recent times Grattan has not allowed Fri. eve. entry to the track and folks have to spend the night in the entrance "camp" area. My last event there, a generous fellow (bubbles ) paid Grattan to have someone work the gate, then took a collection later. So it seems a hit or miss type of thing.
sometimes???? I have never arrived at Gratten on a friday night that Sam was NOT drunk.... I will be there all weekend.....DRUNK!!!!!!!
